Job description

We’re looking for a Data Engineer who loves building modern data platforms and helping organisations turn raw data into real business value. You’ll design, develop and optimise data solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Azure, enabling clients to make smarter decisions, modernise legacy estates and accelerate analytics, reporting, AI and machine learning initiatives.

As part of my clients Group’s Data & AI practice, you’ll work across a variety of projects - shaping architectures, building scalable pipelines, and delivering robust, business-focused data engineering solutions. You’ll combine hands-on technical expertise with a consultative mindset, working directly with stakeholders to understand challenges, define requirements, and guide them through the full delivery lifecycle.

This is a chance to join a growing team at the forefront of Microsoft’s data ecosystem, helping establish industry-leading engineering practices while working with clients across multiple sectors., You’ll own the design, development and delivery of modern data engineering solutions - ensuring platforms are scalable, secure, reliable and aligned to client needs. Core delivery responsibilities

  • Design and build ETL/ELT pipelines using Microsoft Fabric and Azure services.
  • Develop scalable data models, ingestion frameworks and transformation processes.
  • Implement medallion architecture patterns and high-performing data platforms.
  • Deliver data ingestion, transformation and orchestration using Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, and related services.
  • Ensure solutions meet standards for reliability, maintainability, security and performance.

Collaboration & platform enablement

  • Work closely with Power BI developers, AI specialists, and wider delivery teams to build platforms that support analytics, reporting and operational workloads.
  • Design semantic models and optimise data structures for performance and scalability.
  • Support data governance initiatives including lineage, metadata management and access control.

Client-facing consulting

  • Engage directly with stakeholders to understand business challenges and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Facilitate discovery sessions, contribute to architecture and design decisions, and provide trusted guidance on data strategy, platform design, governance, security and DevOps.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support pre-sales activities, proposals and solution shaping, identifying opportunities to extend client data capabilities.

Requirements

We’re looking for an experienced Data Engineer with strong cloud data platform expertise and a passion for delivering high-quality solutions. Technical expertise

  • Proven experience designing and implementing data engineering solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Azure.
  • Strong background in ETL/ELT, data warehousing concepts, dimensional modelling and modern data architecture patterns.
  • Hands-on skills across T-SQL, Python, PySpark, and developing robust data processing solutions.
  • Experience optimising performance across databases, transformation workloads and distributed data platforms.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, Azure DevOps, Git-based workflows and modern deployment pipelines.
  • Experience with Fabric components such as Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory Pipelines, Dataflow Gen2, and Notebooks.

Governance & quality

  • Strong understanding of data quality, governance and security principles - including metadata management, lineage, RBAC and data protection requirements.

Consultative mindset

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Comfortable facilitating workshops, leading technical discussions and producing clear documentation.
  • Enjoys solving complex problems, exploring emerging technologies and contributing ideas.
  • Thrives in collaborative environments where learning, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement are valued.
