Job description

Hearts & Minds Activity Center seeks a strategic and detail-oriented Development Manager. This role offers significant responsibility, independence, and the opportunity to help shape our fundraising program.

About Hearts and Minds Activity Center

Hearts & Minds Activity Center, founded in 1984 is the first large capacity dementia specific adult day care program in the country.

Hearts & Minds Activity Center provides therapeutic activities to seniors with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The services include adult day care activities that enhance the use of cognitive skills, stimulate interpersonal interaction, encourage mobility/stability and provide monitoring and assistance for nutritional care and personal hygiene. Hearts & Minds operates a licensed Childcare Center which was established to provide onsite intergenerational programming for individuals with dementia and preschool children. The clients and children (2 to 5 years of age) engage in daily multiple levels of interaction., The Development Manager is a dynamic, creative, and organized professional who is interested in helping a mission-driven nonprofit thrive and grow. This position will play a critical role in events, donor development, legacy giving and corporate sponsorship for Hearts & Minds Activity Center. The Development Manager is responsible for developing and assisting in the growth of funding for the adult day dementia program as well as the childcare/intergenerational program and will be part of ensuring revenue goals are met for various fundraising areas. The Development Manager is an exempt, full-time position, Monday-Friday, with the possibility of occasional Saturdays and evenings., Annual Fund & Campaign Management

  • Lead annual matching campaign, overseeing direct mail and email fundraising, agency sponsorship, and legacy giving initiatives.
  • Track and analyze campaign performance; recommend and implement strategies for improvement.
  • Research and introduce new giving mechanisms and trends, such as a second annual campaign, Corporate Partners Program, etc.

Donor Stewardship, Development & Major Gift Development

  • Provide exceptional stewardship and responsive service to members and donors across all channels-in-person, phone, email, and mail.
  • Support existing major donors and increase the volume of major gifts as well as the number of major donors.
  • Plan and execute donor recognition events.
  • Steward existing Legacy donors and expand outreach to prospective estate gift donors to increase legacy gifts.
  • Conduct donor and prospect research using online tools; create and maintain profiles and prospect lists.

Events

Plan and lead special and signature events, such as the annual gala

Gala

· With the CEO, plan and organize the gala and acquire event sponsorship

· Acquire live auction and raffle items.

· With the CEO, plan the logistics of the event and provide logistics and event-day support.

· Coordinate vendors, and staff, and work with the Volunteer coordinator to coordinate volunteers

· Maintain files and records of all events and activities.

Other Events

  • Propose, develop and launch at least one other fundraising/friend raising event, such as house parties, concert, etc.

Donorview Database Management

· Maintain accurate donor records in Donorview, including updates, gift entry, tracking, and reporting.

· Audit and streamline donor communication preferences.

· Issue acknowledgment letters and fulfill donor and sponsor benefits.

· Partner with Operations Manager to maintain data accuracy and coordinated donor communications.

Digital Giving & Communications

  • Create and manage online giving campaigns using donor platform tools and social media
  • Design, update, and simplify donor communications, including reply devices, website giving pages, and planned giving materials.

Safety Attire

Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) required for position and when PPE is required by the Public Health Department and/or Community Care Licensing during pandemic event or other types of disease outbreaks to ensure the safety and health of all individuals.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year

Requirements

· 3-6 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising, with demonstrated success in donor cultivation, major gifts, campaign management, events, and database administration.

  • Ability to convey a high degree of commitment and passion for the mission of Hearts & Minds Activity Center.
  • Experience seeking out and cultivating relationships that lead to increased agency funding.

· Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to clearly and effectively communicate information verbally and in writing for a diverse range of audiences including board members, volunteers, staff, donors, executives, potential funding partners and all constituencies.

  • Ability to write emotionally and intellectually engaging copy accurately and quickly

· Outstanding organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple fundraising initiatives simultaneously and meet competing deadlines with minimal supervision.

· Strategic and collaborative approach to development operations, with ability to contribute innovative ideas and process improvements.

· Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

· Ability to work within a budget

· Knowledge of event management standards and trends, safety protocols and vendors

· Understanding of philanthropy and ethics of resource development

· Self-motivated, good organizational, and strong interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines, problem solve, work on a team as well as independently.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Workspace. Experience with social media is a plus.

  • Ability to attend external events and meetings and work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a related field.

· Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
