Job description

  • Develop embedded firmware (C/C++) to control electric motors (BLDC, stepper, servo) in satellite electromechanical systems

  • Implement motor control algorithms including FOC, commutation, torque/speed regulation, and closed-loop position control

  • Interface with sensors (encoders, Hall effect, current sensors, temperature, IMUs) to enable real-time feedback and monitoring

  • Design and build automated test systems for verifying satellite hardware and electromechanical assemblies

  • Develop cloud-based tools and infrastructure for test data collection, analysis, remote monitoring, and fleet-level reporting

  • Communicate with higher-level system architectures via standard protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet)

  • Author functional requirements, design verification plans, and test procedures

  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to integrate firmware into satellite hardware

  • Support product releases from prototype through manufacturing and deploym

A day in the life

This is not a generic embedded role. You will write the firmware that makes motors move, actuators deploy, and mechanisms operate - then build the cloud-connected test infrastructure to prove it all works. The ideal candidate lives at the intersection of embedded systems, motor control theory, and software architecture.

Requirements

5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 4+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent

  • Knowledge of Python and/or C++ programming

  • Experience in embedded development in C/C++, or experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
