Job description

  • Collect sample data (patient info, IDs, test orders) with high accuracy using Excel, Access, and SQL
  • Prepare data for delivery: validate, format, and securely hand off to clients.
  • Troubleshoot basic IT issues affecting specimen flow (e.g., printers, email access).
  • Monitor and resolve data entry inconsistencies (e.g., mismatched IDs or missing fields).
  • Work closely with lab and client staff to clarify specimen requirements or resolve delays/issues.
  • Maintain data integrity, confidentiality (HIPAA compliance), and adhere to lab safety and regulatory policies
  • Track and order specimen collection materials as needed.
  • Receive, sort, and potentially handle biological specimens (e.g., blood, tissue) per lab protocols
  • Support quality control processes: conduct periodic reviews and report data-related issues.
  • Perform additional duties to support the Specimen Accessioning team, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Candidates MUST HAVE strong Excel experience.
  • Must be very confident with formulas, pivot tables, etc.
  • Must be able to figure out why excel tables arent working and troubleshoot.
  • Basic understanding of SQL and Microsoft Access.
  • Able to read and write basic queries., * High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree in science or IT preferred)
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data validation).
  • Working knowledge of SQL for data retrieval, manipulation, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to troubleshoot routine IT problems (printers, emails).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced lab environment.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with MS Access application development and database querying.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and specimen processing protocols.
