Job description
The Building Systems Operator monitors and manages building systems to ensure operational continuity and safety. The role involves technical troubleshooting, incident response, and collaboration with team members to maintain efficient building operations. Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage critical alarms related to building mechanical infrastructure, fire, and life safety systems through building automation systems (BAS).
- Conduct proactive virtual tours of facility systems to verify proper operation and maintain knowledge of BAS functionality.
- Track, escalate, and communicate incidents with potential business disruption through established protocols and communication channels.
- Provide technical support to field operations by troubleshooting equipment using BAS data, evaluating trend reports, and performing system overrides when necessary.
- Support and coordinate building shutdown activities via BAS, ensuring timely notifications to stakeholders.
- Validate proper approvals for vendor work prior to commencement.
- Receive, generate, and process work orders in the designated system, dispatch technicians, and follow up as required.
- Prepare, maintain, and issue accurate shift reports that capture critical operational information and ensure seamless communication across teams.
- Foster a positive, collaborative team culture by maintaining open communication, supporting colleagues during high-pressure situations, and contributing to a healthy work environment.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain a client-focused approach in all interactions.
- Perform other tasks as assigned to support operational objectives.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Degree or coursework in a technology-related field from an accredited institution (preferred)
- Strong proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Understanding of technology, software applications, and computer systems
- Ability to analyze system operations, identify malfunctions, and take corrective action
- Experience with building automation systems (preferred)
- HVAC experience (preferred)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to produce accurate reports under client-defined deadlines
- Self-starter capable of thriving in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and effective during stressful or emergency situations
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical coursework or degree in related field
- Experience with BAS and HVAC systems
The shift involves a Wednesday through Saturday, 10-hour schedule from 1:30 pm to 12:00 am.
