Job description

Lead modernization of critical legacy business systems to reliable, maintainable, and well-tested applications.

  • Design and build .NET 8 backend services and Angular front ends to replace legacy modules, preserving complex business rules.
  • Migrate schemas and data from Ingres to SQL Server with reconciliation to ensure data accuracy.
  • Reverse-engineer system behavior from legacy code and SME interviews before re-implementing on modern platforms.
  • Utilize AI-assisted workflows (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) for analysis, coding, testing, and documentation, maintaining rigorous quality standards.
  • Deliver software via Azure DevOps, incorporating code reviews, automated tests, CI/CD pipelines, and production-ready engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, and technical teammates to clarify requirements and reduce migration risks.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical design documentation, implementation planning, and production support preparation.
  • Apply strong expertise in .NET (C#, ASP.NET Core, EF Core, etc.), modern Angular (preferably v17+), TypeScript, and advanced SQL Server skills.

Requirements

Demonstrate strong system design ability, including decomposition into clean domains and defending trade-offs for non-functional requirements.

  • Utilize domain-driven design and incremental migration patterns (e.g., strangler fig, anti-corruption layers).
  • Exhibit proficiency reading, understanding, and modernizing unfamiliar legacy code.
  • Nice to have: Experience with legacy technology stacks (e.g., VB.NET, VB6, PowerBuilder, Ingres), electric utility environments, and modernization initiatives requiring strict continuity and auditability.
  • Ideal profile: Hands-on, analytical, detail-oriented senior engineer adept at legacy code analysis, modernization, collaboration, and AI-assisted development, with a strong focus on correctness, documentation, and repeatable quality assurance.
