Job description
The Staff Software Engineer at Digital Dynamics Inc. is a senior individual contributor responsible for owning and driving the technical design, implementation, and long-term health of major software subsystems that support mission-critical equipment used across global industries. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy and influence, providing technical leadership across teams while remaining hands-on with design and implementation.
Responsibilities include defining and owning software architecture for significant subsystems; leading the design and delivery of complex, cross-team software solutions; writing high-quality, secure, and maintainable code; and ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance across systems. The Staff Software Engineer leads technical decision-making, performs root-cause analysis on systemic issues, and partners closely with product, systems, hardware, and manufacturing teams to align technical solutions with business and operational needs. This role mentors senior and junior engineers, establishes and reinforces engineering best practices, contributes to technical standards, and drives continuous improvement across the software organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience)
- 8-12 years of professional software engineering experience
- Deep proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or similar
- Strong experience in software architecture, system design, and large-scale software integration
- Proven ability to own and evolve complex software subsystems or platforms
- Experience with relational databases, SQL, and ORM technologies
- Advanced proficiency with version control systems and collaborative development workflows
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex, cross-system technical issues
- Strong technical judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to influence across teams without formal authority, * Experience with test-driven development (TDD), automated testing, and quality frameworks
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience developing software for industrial, embedded, or mission-critical systems
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and leading technical initiatives
- Exposure to long-lifecycle, reliability-critical software environments
