Job description

We are seeking an energetic and highly experienced Senior PHP Backend Developer to join our in-house development team. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and optimisation of robust backend solutions using PHP, ensuring seamless integration with front-end technologies and third-party services. Your expertise will drive the creation of scalable, secure, and high-performance web applications for a wide range of different clients with different business needs.

  • Design and implement RESTful APIs to facilitate smooth communication between front-end interfaces and backend services.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers to integrate UI components built with React, or other frameworks, ensuring a cohesive user experience.
  • Optimise database design and queries to support application scalability and efficiency.
  • Participate in the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including planning, coding, testing (unit testing), debugging, deployment, and documentation.
  • Utilise version control systems such as Git or SVN to manage codebase effectively across team members.
  • Implement microservices architecture when appropriate to improve modularity and system scalability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by adopting best practices in application development, security protocols, and performance tuning and training others
  • Mentoring other members of the dev team, sharing PHP best practices
  • Working on greenfield builds as well as supporting and improving existing client projects

Requirements

  • Proven software development experience with extensive knowledge of PHP and backend frameworks at least 5 years.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and MVC (Model-View-Controller) architecture.
  • Hands-on experience working with REST APIs, SOAP web services, XML, JSON, and other data interchange formats.
  • Proficiency in database design and management.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS ( Kubernetes) for deploying scalable applications.
  • Experience with front-end development tools like HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular), TypeScript is a plus.
  • Ability to write clean code with a focus on debugging and troubleshooting complex issues efficiently.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, experience with CI/CD pipelines is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC methodologies and Agile practices to ensure timely project delivery.
