Job description

The System Engineering & Integration Team (SE&IT) is seeking a Systems Engineer to join the System Design and Requirements Capability team in Huntsville, AL. The successful candidate will support cross-functional teams to develop system level architecture and requirements to influence Missile Defense Agency (MDA) incremental capability. The candidate will use Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to evaluate architectural impacts through functional and behavior analysis for the defeat of conventional and advanced Threats (i.e., ballistic, aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.) systems within the (MDA) mission areas. The Systems Engineer will collaborate in an MBSE environment to develop system-of-systems requirements via system/component trade studies and analysis, and lead the development of Change Notices (CNs) to MDA’s system specification to include functional, interface and performance requirements, architectural models, interface definitions, and support Trace verifcation from System to Element level requirements. The Systems Engineer will develop and deliver products (i.e., technical briefings, CNs) to support internal and MDA stakeholder reviews.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree, plus 6 months of relevant experience.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required., * The Systems Engineer should demonstrate a technical background in architecture development, functional decomposition and/or allocation of requirements (performance, functional and interface definition) with system-modelling tools.

  • Candidate should have prior experience with use of MSOSA (Cameo), DOORS and/or demonstrated knowledge in any of the MDA domain areas; including Aegis Weapon System, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Glide Phase Intercept (GPI), Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS), Fire Control, C2BMC, MDS sensors (EO/IR/RF).
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to think critically and capture concepts in papers, presentations, and discussions.
  • The individual must possess good communication/presentation skills and be capable of working both independently and within a small team environment.
  • The successful candidate will work in close coordination with the customer.
  • Secret Security clearance required at time of hire., * Demonstrated experience modeling (architecture) or simulating missile defense applications or similar domains (air combat, air defense, intercept of ballistic targets, intercept of non-ballistic targets, space vehicles, sub-orbital mechanics, etc.).
  • Knowledge of ballistic and advanced threat systems (i.e., aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.).
  • Modeling and analysis experience in aspects of the missile defense system (e.g., Aegis Weapons Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Glide Phase Intercept (GPI), Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS), Fire Control, C2BMC, missile defense sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, countermeasures.
  • Systems engineering experience with large, complex systems.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (JIRA and Confluence) is beneficial.
  • Identifies opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation.
