Job description

UJA-Federation of New York is the world’s largest local philanthropy. We focus on caring for people in need and inspiring the Jewish future. We believe in the power of insights to shape strategy, optimize fundraising efforts, and improve donor and community engagement. As part of our continued investment in data and analytics, we are seeking a Director of Business Intelligence & Analytics to lead the organization’s intelligence, analytics, and business reporting team. This is a highly visible leadership role at the intersection of data, technology, and strategy.

The Director will be a technical, hands-on leader who will be responsible for managing a team to successfully deliver enterprise reporting, actionable insights, and key business analytics. This role partners closely with business teams to translate data into meaningful decisions that advance UJA’s mission. The role requires direct contribution with team leadership and skills-building. The Director will often be asked to define and scope problems, prioritize competing needs, and bring structure to evolving business questions. This leader should be comfortable taking initiative, asking thoughtful questions, and guiding stakeholders toward clarity and actionable solutions.

The ideal candidate combines technical depth with strong business acumen, is highly organized, and communicates complex ideas with clarity and precision. Above all, this leader will help foster a culture where data is trusted, accessible, and central to how UJA makes decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the team towards optimizing the design and delivery of enterprise-wide reporting and analytics across fundraising, program/planning, finance, and operations.
  • Build and maintain executive-ready dashboards and reporting tools that enable faster, more informed decision-making.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to leadership, translating complex data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Direct and mentor a team of analysts and BI professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the intake, prioritization, and delivery of analytics and reporting requests across departments.
  • Partner with data engineering and IT teams to ensure a scalable, reliable data infrastructure and high data quality standards.
  • Implement automation and process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of reporting.
  • Maintain data governance practices, including metric definitions, documentation, and data integrity standards.
  • Have familiarity with and excitement about generative BI and the use of LLMs and AI agents for more conversational, real-time analytics.
  • Keep apprised of new tools, technology, and especially AI advancements to reduce manual work and to champion AI-powered analytics into the organization.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive work experience in business intelligence, finance, business analytics, data analytics, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of leading analytics or BI teams and delivering high-impact reporting and insights.
  • Expert proficiency in SQL and proficiency with BI / analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Looker, or similar) and modern cloud data platforms (Azure/Fabric, Snowflake, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in a scripting language, preferably Python, data modeling, ETL concepts, and governed semantic layers for business intelligence.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present insights to non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Experience utilizing AI to drive efficiencies and reduce manual work burdens.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, set clear expectations, adapt communication to different stakeholders, and recommend data-driven solutions that best support business goals.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence decision-making through data.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with MS Azure, Fabric, and Salesforce CRM.
  • Experience building data-driven cultures and leading organizational change.
  • Exposure to generative BI or advanced analytics techniques is a plus.

Reports To: Vice President, Data & Insights

Salary Range: $150,000 - $160,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications listed above.
