Job description

We are seeking a skilled Microsoft Fabric Business Intelligence (BI) Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable reporting and analytics solutions that support strategic business decision-making. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in data modeling, ETL development, dashboard creation, and BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik. This role partners closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and technical teams to transform complex data into meaningful insights.

Microsoft Fabric is REQUIRED

Design, implement, and support enterprise-grade Business Intelligence solutions built on the Microsoft Fabric platform. In this role, you will serve as both a hands-on technical implementer and a thought leader, driving architectural consensus and translating business requirements defined by the Enterprise Data Manager and Business Engineer into robust, scalable data solutions. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of BI delivery, from data ingestion and ETL orchestration through the Lakehouse layer to surfacing insights in Power BI and delivering data to customers through various channels and formats.

Key Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain business intelligence solutions, dashboards, reports, and data visualizations. - Gather and analyze business requirements from stakeholders and translate them into technical specifications. - Develop and optimize data models, data warehouses, and semantic layers. - Build and maintain ETL and ELT processes to extract, transform, and load data from multiple sources. - Create interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI and Microsoft Fabric. - Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across reporting environments. - Monitor BI system performance and troubleshoot reporting and data-related issues. - Collaborate with data engineering, analytics, and business teams to deliver scalable solutions. - Develop and maintain documentation for data models, reports, dashboards, and data governance practices. - Stay current with BI technologies, data visualization trends, and industry best practices.

Solution Design and Technical Leadership - Act as the primary technical authority for Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse architecture, championing best practices and driving consensus on design decisions across stakeholders. - Collaborate closely with the Enterprise Data Manager and Business Engineer to translate functional requirements into technical specifications. You own the implementation, not the domain expertise. - Evaluate tradeoffs and recommend scalable, maintainable BI architectures that meet complex and evolving business requirements.

Data Engineering and ETL Orchestration - Design, build, and maintain end-to-end ETL and ELT pipelines using Microsoft Fabric Data Factory, Dataflows Gen2, and related orchestration tools. - Develop and manage Lakehouse data models, including Delta tables, medallion architecture layers (Bronze, Silver, Gold), and semantic models optimized for Power BI consumption. - Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance standards are applied throughout the data pipeline.

BI Development and Reporting - Build, publish, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic datasets that meet performance and usability standards. - Implement row-level security, incremental refresh, and performance optimization techniques within Power BI and the Fabric compute layer. - Support the export and distribution of data to external customers via APIs, paginated reports, OneLake shortcuts, and other delivery mechanisms.

Support and Operations - Provide ongoing production support for BI solutions, troubleshooting data pipeline failures, report issues, and performance degradation. - Monitor workspace capacity, pipeline health, and refresh schedules; implement alerting and proactive remediation. - Maintain clear technical documentation for all solutions, data models, and operational runbooks.

AI and Innovation (Preferred, Not Required) - Integrate AI-powered capabilities such as Microsoft Copilot for Power BI, Azure AI Services, and Fabric Notebooks with machine learning models where they add measurable value. - Stay current with the rapidly evolving Microsoft Fabric ecosystem and proactively identify opportunities to leverage new features.

Requirements

Technical Skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Data Factory, Dataflows Gen2, Spark Notebooks, and capacity management. - Deep expertise in Power BI, including data modeling (star schema, composite models), DAX, Power Query (M), report development, and deployment pipelines. - Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts, including dimensional modeling, slowly changing dimensions, and medallion architecture. - Hands-on experience designing and orchestrating ETL and ELT processes at scale. - Proficiency in SQL (T-SQL or Spark SQL) for data transformation and query optimization. - Proven ability to deliver end-to-end BI solutions with complex, multi-source requirements.

Soft Skills and Leadership - Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, build consensus, and influence solution direction across cross-functional teams. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to both technical and business audiences. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured, methodical approach to troubleshooting. - Self-directed and capable of owning end-to-end delivery with minimal supervision. - Expected to follow approved processes for documentation, time tracking, and project milestone reporting.

Preferred Qualifications - Microsoft Certifications (optional but valued): PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst), DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer), DP-700 (Fabric Data Engineer), or equivalent. - Experience integrating AI and machine learning capabilities into BI solutions, including Microsoft Copilot, Azure OpenAI, and Fabric Notebooks. - Familiarity with Azure Data Services, including Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure Synapse, and Azure Databricks. - Experience with DevOps practices for BI, including Git integration and CI/CD pipelines for Power BI and Fabric artifacts. - Knowledge of data governance and security frameworks, including Microsoft Purview, data classification, and RLS/OLS.

What You Will Not Need to Own This role is partnered with an Enterprise Data Manager and Data Engineer who own the business domain knowledge, data definitions, and business logic. You are not expected to be a subject matter expert in the underlying business data on day one. Your focus is on implementing technically sound and high-performing solutions based on defined requirements and ensuring those solutions reliably deliver data to end customers.

Additional Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field. - 3+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or related development roles. - Strong proficiency in SQL and relational database management systems. - Experience with BI and visualization tools, specifically Microsoft Fabric. - Experience with ETL tools and data integration processes. - Understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and star/snowflake schemas. - Experience working with large datasets and multiple data sources. - Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Additional Preferred Qualifications - Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud. - Knowledge of Azure Synapse, Snowflake, Databricks, or Redshift. - Experience with Python, R, or other data analysis languages. - Familiarity with Agile development methodologies. - Microsoft Fabric BI, Azure, or related industry certifications.

Success Measures - Improved data accessibility and business insights. - Enhanced dashboard adoption and stakeholder satisfaction. - High data quality and reporting reliability. - Continuous optimization of BI processes and platform performance.
