At Sectra, our mission is to contribute to a healthier and safer society. As a Database Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting that mission by serving as the senior database subject matter expert within our Cloud Operations team.

In this role, you will be the primary technical escalation point for complex Microsoft SQL Server environments, partnering closely with Cloud Operations, Support, Deployment, and Product teams to resolve critical customer issues and continuously improve our technical capabilities. Beyond troubleshooting, you will help strengthen the organization through mentoring, knowledge sharing, process improvement, and technical enablement.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SQL professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges while helping elevate the skills of those around them.

What You Will Do

Serve as the senior technical escalation resource for complex Microsoft SQL Server and database-related customer issues. Troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve advanced SQL Server performance, availability, and database administration issues across both on-premises and Microsoft Azure environments. Partner with Cloud Operations, Support, Deployment, and other technical teams to drive timely resolution of high-priority customer escalations. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers across the organization, serving as a trusted database expert. Develop and deliver technical training, documentation, and best practices related to SQL Server administration and troubleshooting. Identify recurring technical challenges and recommend process improvements, automation opportunities, and preventative solutions. Support complex customer implementations, upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery planning, and database maintenance activities. Collaborate with Product Management and Development to investigate software defects, validate fixes, and support product improvements. Create and maintain internal knowledge base articles, troubleshooting guides, and standard operating procedures. Contribute to Service Enablement initiatives that improve operational efficiency, technical readiness, and cross-functional knowledge sharing. Stay current on Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL technologies, clustering, high availability, and industry best practices

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Five to ten years of hands-on experience administering and supporting Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments, with at least five years of SQL Server administration experience required. Strong experience troubleshooting SQL Server performance, query optimization, indexing, backups, restores, replication, and high availability solutions. Experience supporting databases hosted both on-premises and within Microsoft Azure environments. Working knowledge of SQL Server clustering, Always On Availability Groups, and disaster recovery concepts. Experience supporting production environments and serving as an escalation resource for complex technical issues. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Demonstrated ability to mentor teammates and contribute to a collaborative technical culture. Microsoft SQL Server certification or Azure Database Administrator Associate certification is preferred.
