Job description

As a Fluid Systems Responsible Engineer in the Crew Systems product team, you will own the design and development of the Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Suit Umbilical Interface Panel (UIP) on the MK2 Crew Lander. This is a hardware design and ownership role which will include the complete life cycle of the EVA UIP through detailed design, component development, procurement, assembly, verification testing, and operations.

In this role, you will work with closely with NASA and their EVA Suit provider as part of the Artemis Human Landing System (HLS) program. You will play a key role in developing the MK2 Crewed Lunar Lander that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design, analyze, and test fluid systems for human rated flight, including breathing gas (oxygen systems), water, and vacuum
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate fluid systems into spaceflight vehicles
  • Prepare technical documentation, engineering reports, and design presentations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Coordinate design for manufacturability efforts

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing, vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.
  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related technical subject area
  • 4+ years of technical experience in developing and testing integrated fluid systems
  • Experience designing fluids and/or mechanical systems using CAD software (CREO/Windchill preferred)
  • Experience creating and interpreting P&IDs and fabrication drawings
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerance standards
  • Experience or familiarity with first order fluids and structural analysis
  • Familiarity and experience with hands-on prototyping and design, mockup design and evaluation, engineering development units and test methods
  • Collaborative mindset and effective interpersonal skills
  • Strong desire to continuously learn, improve, and drive solutions forward
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills with ability to directly interface with external parties including government and commercial entities
  • Willingness to work on-site with occasional travel
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum, * M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related technical subject area
  • Expertise in PTC CREO and Windchill
  • Familiarity with CREO Piping Tools
  • Proficiency in Thermal Desktop with FloCAD
  • Experience with Oxygen Systems
  • Experience with EVA and/or IVA Suit Systems
  • Experience in the design and analysis of human-interfacing hardware, preferably focused on spacecraft, in-space stages, and/or landers
