Job description

Titan is an AI-powered learning platform for Dutch secondary education (VMBO/HAVO/VWO). Students work through curriculum topics per subject - biology, Dutch, English maths, and so on - and get a personal AI tutor for each topic that answers questions and guides them through the material. As they go, they make exercises that are automatically assessed (open and multiple-choice), tagged against real didactic metadata like Bloom levels, learning objectives and difficulty. Schools, teachers and content sit behind it, with an admin panel for managing curriculum content. WeAreBrain built the platform for a Dutch client, and it’s live.

About the role

We’re handing Titan over to a developer who will own it day-to-day: backend, frontend, and the client relationship. You work directly with the client and translate their ideas into working software - but you’re not on your own: the WeAreBrain team that built the platform stays available for advice, brainstorming, and architectural sparring. They just won’t be in the day-to-day work or client meetings; that’s yours.

Technical stack:

  • API: Python / FastAPI, SQLAlchemy + Alembic, PostgreSQL, Docker
  • Web app: React 19, TypeScript, Vite, TanStack (Router/Query), Tailwind, typed OpenAPI client
  • Admin panel: Next.js / React (a smaller surface - comfortable React skills cover it)
  • AI layer: the tutor agent is built on Sinas, an open-source self-hosted platform for AI agents; the agent’s configuration and behavior are part of the product you’ll shape

Responsibilities:

  • Build new functionality across the full stack - primarily the API and web app
  • Evolve the product workflow: changes to the AI tutor’s configuration, the API, and the frontend/UX as one coherent whole
  • Build dashboarding/reporting for the client
  • Keep the platform healthy in production (scalability groundwork is largely done)
  • Own the client relationship: intake requirements, propose solutions, scope, estimate, push back when needed, and communicate progress - the client is non-technical and refreshingly direct, and appreciates the same in return
  • Consult the original WeAreBrain team when you want a second opinion on bigger decisions

Requirements

  • A capable mid-level full-stack developer - you can own a production system independently, and you know when to ask for advice rather than getting stuck
  • Solid with Python (FastAPI or similar) and React/TypeScript; comfortable with relational data modeling and migrations
  • Experience with or strong interest in LLM/AI-agent products (prompting, agent configuration, evaluating output quality)
  • AI-native way of working: we expect heavy, effective use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) - this is how one developer covers full-stack scope within the client’s budget
  • Client-facing skills: you can run a conversation with a non-technical client, turn “make it easier” into a concrete plan, and manage expectations on scope and timeline
  • Privacy-aware: the platform serves students, including minors - you handle their data with care and understand the basics of GDPR/AVG in that context

Nice to have:

  • Dutch language skills - the client is Dutch; strongly preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with the Dutch education system (helpful context, but learnable on the job - AI gets you far)
  • Background or affinity with education/EdTech
  • Experience working solo with SME clients
  • DevOps basics (Docker, CI/CD, monitoring)
