Forward Deployed AI Engineer

pmdigital.ai, a PM Solutions company, is seeking a Forward Deployed AI Engineer to help build, prototype, and deploy AI-enabled solutions for federal customers. This is a hands-on technical role for someone who can work directly with customers, understand mission workflows, develop prototypes, integrate AI and automation tools, and support secure implementation in federal environments. This person will serve as a bridge between customer needs, engineering execution, and business growth. The role is engineering-first, but customer-facing. The ideal candidate can build solutions, explain them clearly, support demonstrations, and help pmdigital.ai turn AI modernization concepts into working capabilities. This is a hybrid role that will require on-site work in Reston, VA at least 2 days per week., * Design, prototype, and implement AI-enabled solutions, automation workflows, and mission support tools.

• Work directly with customers, partners, and internal teams to understand operational problems and translate them into technical requirements.
• Build proof-of-concept applications, demos, dashboards, AI assistants, knowledge management tools, and workflow automations.
• Support federal AI modernization use cases, including document processing, help desk automation, knowledge retrieval, reporting, decision support, training support, and business process automation.
• Integrate AI services, APIs, databases, document repositories, and enterprise systems where appropriate.
• Support responsible AI implementation by incorporating human oversight, access control, data protection, auditability, explainability, and risk management considerations.
• Participate in customer and partner meetings as a technical expert to explain solution approaches, demonstrate prototypes, and help shape opportunities.
• Collaborate with business development and capture teams to develop technical solution narratives, demos, white papers, and proposal inputs.
• Help define repeatable delivery playbooks for pmdigital.ai AI services, including AI readiness assessments, workflow automation sprints, and AI-enabled knowledge management solutions.
• Support deployment planning in secure federal environments, including Microsoft GCC High, Azure Government, AWS GovCloud, or other approved environments.
• Stay current on AI, automation, cloud, data, and federal technology trends relevant to pmdigital.ai services., * Builds working prototypes that help customers understand what pmdigital.ai can deliver.
• Helps convert customer problems into funded AI modernization opportunities.
• Supports technical credibility in partner and agency conversations.
• Creates reusable demos, playbooks, and implementation patterns.
• Helps delivery teams move from concept to pilot to production.
• Ensures AI solutions are practical, secure, governed, and mission-aligned.

• 3+ years of hands-on software engineering, AI engineering, data engineering, automation, or solutions engineering experience.
• Experience building applications, scripts, APIs, integrations, automations, or AI-enabled prototypes.
• Working knowledge of Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar modern development languages.
• Familiarity with generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt engineering, AI agents, workflow automation, or knowledge management tools.
• Ability to translate vague business or mission problems into practical technical solutions.
• Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with customers, executives, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to create technical demos, proof-of-concepts, diagrams, and implementation plans.
• Understanding of security, privacy, access control, and data protection principles., * Experience supporting federal, defense, healthcare, or regulated environments.
• Familiarity with Microsoft GCC High, Azure Government, AWS GovCloud, Power Platform, SharePoint, Teams, ServiceNow, Jira, or similar enterprise tools.
• Experience with vector databases, semantic search, document processing, OCR, APIs, LangChain, LlamaIndex, OpenAI/Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, or similar AI tooling.
• Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD, GitHub, Docker, cloud deployment, or infrastructure-as-code.
• Familiarity with CUI, CMMC, NIST 800-171, NIST AI RMF, FedRAMP, or federal cybersecurity requirements.
• Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.
• Prior experience in a consulting, forward-deployed engineering, solutions engineering, or customer-facing technical role.
