Job description

Global Alliant, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Software Engineer to support a mission-critical application modernization initiative for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This role involves designing, developing, enhancing, and maintaining secure, scalable enterprise applications using modern cloud-native technologies while collaborating within an Agile software development environment., * Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable enterprise applications using Java and related technologies.

  • Develop secure RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Build and deploy cloud-native applications within AWS.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, DevOps engineers, testers, and stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to software quality and engineering best practices.
  • Optimize application performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Support containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Produce technical documentation and participate in Agile ceremonies.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has extensive experience developing enterprise Java applications, strong knowledge of cloud technologies, and a passion for delivering high-quality software that supports critical government operations., * Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience with a focus on enterprise application development.

  • Strong expertise in Java development with experience using Kotlin and exposure to Scala.
  • Extensive experience developing Java-based web services and RESTful APIs.
  • Experience working with Docker and containerized application development.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, functional programming concepts, and software design patterns.
  • Working knowledge of the Scala ecosystem, including commonly used frameworks and libraries.
  • Strong SQL development skills with experience designing and querying relational databases.
  • Experience developing applications within AWS cloud environments.
  • Proficiency using Git or similar version control systems.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum software development environments.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following is highly desirable:

  • Amazon EMR (Spark) and OpenSearch administration, security, and scalability
  • Apache Spark, including:
  • Resilient Distributed Datasets (RDDs)
  • DataFrames
  • Spark SQL
  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) using Harness
  • Git-based development workflows
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation)
  • Kubernetes orchestration
  • AWS services including:
  • EC2
  • S3
  • IAM
  • VPC
  • EKS
  • Cloud security best practices including:
  • Encryption
  • Secret management
  • Network security, Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
