Job description

Are you a senior infrastructure engineer ready to step into leadership without moving away from the technical work?

We’re working with a rapidly growing Managed Service Provider that delivers IT, cloud, communications and cybersecurity solutions to businesses across the UK.

They’re looking for a hands-on Technical Infrastructure Team Lead to manage two junior engineers, take ownership of technical escalations and lead customer infrastructure and migration projects.

This isn’t a traditional service-desk management position. You’ll remain technically involved, acting as the senior escalation point while improving service standards and helping the engineers around you develop.

The role

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Leading and mentoring two junior IT engineers.
  • Managing support tickets, workloads and performance against SLAs and KPIs.
  • Acting as the highest technical escalation point for complex incidents.
  • Delivering server, cloud and Microsoft 365 migration projects.
  • Planning P2V, V2V, cloud and tenant-to-tenant migrations.
  • Supporting Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and file services.
  • Managing Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Entra ID and Intune.
  • Supporting Azure, VMware and Hyper-V environments.
  • Leading customer onboarding and technical transition projects.
  • Completing root-cause analysis and implementing permanent fixes.
  • Reviewing solutions proposed by junior engineers.
  • Maintaining clear technical documentation and best practices.
  • Attending customer sites for installations and complex support when required.

Requirements

You’ll need:

  • At least five years’ experience across IT support and infrastructure.
  • Previous experience working for a Managed Service Provider.
  • Experience leading, managing or developing other engineers.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server and Active Directory.
  • Experience delivering infrastructure or migration projects.
  • Good knowledge of VMware or Hyper-V.
  • An understanding of networking, firewalls, backup and disaster recovery.
  • The confidence to take ownership of major incidents and customer escalations.
  • Strong organisation and customer communication skills.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to participate in a paid out-of-hours rota, up to one week per month.

Experience with Atera, Hudu, Microsoft certifications, VMware certifications, CompTIA or Cyber Essentials would be beneficial but isn’t essential.

Why consider it?

This is a genuine opportunity to take ownership of a technical support function while remaining hands-on with infrastructure, cloud and migration projects.

You’ll join an expanding MSP where you can influence technical standards, develop a small team and play a visible role in improving how services are delivered to customers.

If you’re currently working as a Technical Team Lead, Infrastructure Team Lead, Senior Infrastructure Engineer or 3rd Line Engineer with leadership experience, apply now for an initial confidential conversation.
