Job description

To support this strategic step, we are looking forward to welcoming you as (Senior) DevOps Engineer with Backend Development Experience. In this role, you will work closely with our Cloud Engineer and Technology team to take shared ownership of our cloud platforms, strengthen our infrastructure, and actively contribute to the development of production-ready backend services and automation solutions.

Your main duties will be:

  • Share ownership of our cloud infrastructure (AWS and GCP) and ensure the reliable operation of our platforms and services
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
  • Manage, maintain, and optimise containerised applications and environments using Docker
  • Develop, maintain, refactor, and review production code for backend APIs, automation workflows, and data processing pipelines, primarily in Python
  • Ensure the stability, performance, scalability, and security of our platforms and backend services
  • Contribute to strengthening our security architecture and support compliance with ISO-related requirements
  • Identify operational risks, troubleshoot incidents, and proactively improve system reliability and resilience
  • Collaborate closely with our GIS and software development teams to integrate geospatial systems and applications
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and contribute to the standardisation of infrastructure and deployment processes
  • Actively contribute to cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT Security, or a comparable field
  • At least 3 years of experience in DevOps, backend development, or platform engineering
  • Experience working with or understanding secure systems / compliance environments (e.g. ISO 27001)

Technical skills

  • Strong experience with Docker and containerisation
  • Very good knowledge of Linux systems and shell scripting
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (preferably AWS and GCP)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g. GitHub Actions or similar)
  • Solid programming skills in Python
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform) is a strong advantage
  • Solid understanding of API design and backend architecture is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with data processing pipelines and automation workflows is considered an advantage
  • Exposure to geospatial data and tools (e.g. PostGIS, GeoPandas) is a plus
  • Knowledge of satellite data or environmental datasets is an advantage

  • Excellent English language skills (at least C1, written and spoken); German language skills are an advantage
