Job description
RHL is inviting expressions of interest from experienced BESS technical specialists and delivery teams for upcoming Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. These opportunities may be contract or permanent, depending on project phase and delivery model (EPC-led or owner-managed). We are building a talent pool for future project requirements across the full lifecycle: design, procurement support, construction, commissioning/energisation, and handover to operations., We welcome expressions of interest from individuals or organisations with proven experience in one or more of the following:
- BESS Project Manager (Technical) - End-to-end project delivery (programme, budget, risk, stakeholder management) with enough technical knowledge to manage interfaces and challenge EPC/OEMs.
- BESS Systems / Integration Engineer (Owner’s Engineer / EPC Systems) - Integrates battery, PCS/inverters, EMS, transformers, HVAC, fire systems, and controls; manages technical interfaces, performance requirements and warranty considerations.
- Electrical Design Engineer (LV/MV/HV) - Electrical design deliverables (SLDs, cable schedules, earthing, layouts), equipment specifications (switchgear/transformers), and design compliance.
- Grid Connection / Power Systems Engineer (Studies) - Grid compliance and studies (e.g., load flow, fault level, harmonics, dynamic studies where required) and support with DNO/TSO technical submissions.
- Protection & Control (P&C) / Relay Settings Engineer - Protection philosophy, relay coordination and settings, test strategy and support through energisation/commissioning.
- SCADA / Controls Engineer (Site Integration) - Site SCADA/PLC/RTU, telemetry, OT comms integration, alarms/historian, and grid interface requirements.
- EMS Engineer / Controls Specialist - EMS configuration and operational modes (e.g., frequency response, arbitrage, constraint management), dispatch logic and performance tuning.
- Civil / Structural Engineer (BESS Civils) - Foundations/plinths, drainage, access, fencing/security and site enabling works (containerised or modular BESS).
- Mechanical / HVAC Engineer (Containerised Systems) - HVAC sizing/redundancy, thermal management, ventilation and maintainability, supporting performance and warranty compliance.
- Fire Safety / Battery Safety Specialist - Battery safety engineering support (risk assessment approach, detection/venting strategy, suppression interface, emergency response planning) aligned to permitting/insurer needs.
- HSE Manager (Construction & Electrical Safety) - RAMS review, permit-to-work, contractor management, incident prevention and high-risk activity controls (incl. HV works where applicable).
- Quality Manager / QA-QC Engineer - ITPs, inspection/testing records, FAT/SAT support, NCR management and handover quality documentation.
- Site Manager / Construction Manager - Day-to-day site delivery, subcontractor coordination (civils/electrical/commissioning), productivity and site logistics.
- Electrical Site Supervisor (LV/MV) & HV Authorised Person (SAP) (where required) - Supervision of installation, terminations/testing, and HV switching/authorisations in line with project rules.
- Commissioning Manager / Commissioning Lead (BESS) - Commissioning plan and schedule, test coordination, energisation readiness, punch list management and handover acceptance.
- Commissioning Engineers / Test Technicians (Electrical/Controls/PCS/Battery) - Execute SAT, protection tests, functional testing, comms checks and performance verification.
- O&M Lead / Asset Manager (Operational Readiness) - Maintenance strategy, spares, training, CMMS readiness, warranty/claims process, KPI/availability reporting setup.
- Document Controller / Technical Administrator (Handover Packs) - MDR control, test certificates, as-builts, O&M manuals and completion packs to achieve practical completion and smooth handover.
Requirements
- Relevant BESS experience (project size MW/MWh, technologies/chemistry if applicable, client/EPC/OEM side)
- Location coverage and willingness to travel/work on site
- Engagement preference: contract/consultancy/temp/permanent, plus availability/notice period
- Key certifications/authorisations (e.g., HV authorisation/SAP, NEBOSH/IOSH, professional registrations)
- Indicative day rate/salary expectations (optional but helpful at EOI stage)
