Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical System Analyst to lead application discovery, impact assessment, dependency analysis, and migration assessment activities as part of a large-scale IBM WebSphere 8.5.5 to Tomcat on Kubernetes modernization initiative. The role will focus on understanding the existing application landscape, analyzing WebSphere-specific implementations, identifying application and service dependencies, assessing migration impacts, and defining technical migration requirements for Java-based applications deployed across two independently managed platforms. The engagement involves a lift-and-shift migration with Java upgrades while preserving existing SOAP interfaces, consumer integrations, security mechanisms, and business functionality., Current State Assessment Perform detailed analysis of IBM WebSphere 8.5.5 hosted applications and environments. Document existing application architecture, deployment topology, integrations, and configurations. Assess Java runtime dependencies and compatibility for Java version upgrades.
WebSphere & Tomcat Migration Analysis Analyze WebSphere-specific components and recommend equivalent Tomcat configurations.
Evaluate migration requirements for: Application deployment descriptors JNDI configurations JDBC connection pools JMS resources Security configurations Session management
Web Services & Integration Analysis Analyze SOAP-based web services and service contracts. Identify service consumers and integration touchpoints. Assess impact of infrastructure and platform migration on service consumers. Validate that existing SOAP interfaces remain unchanged post migration.
Dependency Mapping & Impact Assessment Perform application dependency analysis. Identify upstream and downstream integrations. Analyze backend database interactions and data flows. Produce application and interface dependency maps.
Security Assessment Analyze existing SAML-based authentication and authorization mechanisms. Assess migration impact on identity and access management integrations. Validate compatibility with the target platform.
Create Technical Documentation Application inventory Service catalog Current and target-state diagrams Migration assessment reports Gap analysis documents Risk and mitigation reports
Stakeholder Collaboration Work closely with architects, developers, middleware teams, infrastructure teams, and application owners. Facilitate requirement gathering and technical workshops. Support migration planning and execution teams through design reviews.

Requirements
8+ years of Technical System Analysis experience. Strong experience with IBM WebSphere environments. Experience analyzing enterprise Java applications. Experience supporting application modernization or migration programs. Experience documenting complex application ecosystems and service dependencies. Working knowledge of Kubernetes-based deployments. Experience with SOAP-based enterprise integrations.
