Job description
POSITION TITLE: Computer Support Technician, * System Deployment & Maintenance: Assist in the distribution, installation, operation, and maintenance of the District’s computer systems and technology equipment.
- Field Support & Travel: Travel to various school and district sites to install equipment, provide user training, or troubleshoot technology issues.
- Diagnosis & Repair: Install, test, troubleshoot, and maintain computer hardware and software; diagnose and resolve technology problems utilizing district tools and test equipment.
- Teacher & Classroom Integration: Work directly with classroom teachers to match instructional integration requests with available district technology.
- Documentation & Asset Management: Develop technology assistance (how-to) guides, user guides, and user assistance items. Maintain clear records and prepare reports related to equipment inventory, maintenance history, installations, and device warranties.
- Policy Compliance: Read, interpret, apply, and explain district technology rules, regulations, safety policies, and official acceptable use procedures.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergency requests for equipment repairs and work with the rest of the technology team on system outages.
- Leadership: Train and provide technical direction to others as requested by the Director of Technology.
- Procurement Support: Preview software and recommend the purchase of new or replacement hardware and software systems., * This position has a high degree of availability to confidential data and information; therefore, a high level of trust is given to this position. Violation of any of these privacy or security responsibilities could result in discipline, including termination.
- Will help to ensure that the district acceptable use policy is followed and adhered to by students and staff. Any violation must be reported immediately to the Director of Technology.
- If in working on a system, personal or confidential information or data is revealed, the sharing or leaking of this information in any form is strictly prohibited.
Requirements
- Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to: a high school diploma supplemented by vocational or college-level course work in computer science, computer technology, or a related field and two years of computer work experience (including progressively responsible experience in maintaining computer operations).
- Licensure: Valid Montana driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- OS & Environment Familiarity: Knowledge of Windows, ChromeOS, and iOS operating systems. Deep experience with Google Suite, including Google for Education or G Suite Enterprise.
- Technical Support Skills: Ability to troubleshoot, investigate, and correct computer malfunctions or errors and perform routine hardware and software technical support using specific methods, tools, and maintenance procedures.
- Teacher Support & Integration: Experience teaching or working with teachers on integrating technology into their classrooms and curriculum.
- Infrastructure Basics: Basic knowledge of network architecture design principles, practices, and implementation. Basic knowledge of Active Directory, VLANs, IP addressing, and firewalls as it relates to end-user devices.
- Communication & Interaction: Ability to provide clear demonstrations and explanations of a variety of computer hardware and software operations to non-technical staff, both orally and in writing.
- Customer Service & Operations: Customer service experience including providing support through phone, email, or HelpDesk ticketing systems. Ability to work effectively under pressure with strict timelines, severe time constraints, numerous contacts, and a high necessity for accuracy.
- Professionalism: Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, handle stressful situations, and work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
- Legal & Ethical Awareness: Knowledge of copyright laws, privacy laws, and District policies relating to data network/computer access., WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. There may be some noise and temperature variations from computer equipment and adjacent offices.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, stretch, lift and carry equipment and objects, and travel from building to other sites. Must have dexterity of hands and fingers to operate computer keyboard and to finger and grasp objects. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to speak and to hear to exchange information and make presentations.
MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are usually unavailable. The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communications.
