Job description

As a Senior Application Engineer, you will design, develop, and support modern data-driven applications on the Databricks platform. This role focuses on creating intuitive, secure, and scalable user experiences that enable business users to interact with enterprise data and AI-powered solutions. You will leverage Databricks Apps, Python, SQL, and modern web technologies to build solutions that balance usability, performance, governance, and security. The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering and UI development skills with expertise in Databricks platform capabilities, including Unity Catalog, security configurations, governance controls, and sustainable application architecture. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain Databricks Apps and user-facing data applications. Build intuitive, business-friendly interfaces using Streamlit or similar frameworks. Develop Python services, APIs, automation, and backend components supporting enterprise data products. Partner with business stakeholders and Enterprise Data Intelligence teams to translate requirements into application solutions. Implement security, governance, and compliance controls using Unity Catalog, RBAC, ABAC, and data classification frameworks. Design scalable and sustainable application architectures that are maintainable and reusable across business domains. Integrate applications with Databricks data products, AI capabilities, dashboards, and governed datasets. Optimize application performance, usability, accessibility, and operational reliability. Establish engineering standards and best practices for Databricks application development. Support deployment automation, monitoring, testing, and lifecycle management. Evaluate emerging Databricks capabilities and recommend innovative solutions for business challenges.

Requirements

5 years of software application development experience. Hands-on experience developing and deploying Databricks Apps. 3 years of Python development experience. Experience building user-facing applications using Streamlit, React, or similar UI frameworks. Experience designing solutions within Databricks, including notebooks, jobs, Delta tables, and Lakehouse architecture. Strong SQL development skills. Experience implementing application security controls and role-based access models. Knowledge of Unity Catalog, data governance, and access management concepts. Experience integrating applications with APIs, enterprise platforms, and cloud services. Experience with CI/CD, source control, automated testing, and software development best practices. Strong problem-solving and solution-design skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Databricks Streamlit Apps. Experience implementing Unity Catalog security models, RBAC, ABAC, masking policies, and data classification controls. Knowledge of sustainable platform engineering principles, including reusable design patterns, operational efficiency, and long-term maintainability. Experience with Databricks AI/ML capabilities, Mosaic AI, Genie, or GenAI applications. Experience designing enterprise self-service analytics or data governance solutions. Familiarity with Azure cloud services and cloud-native application architectures. Experience supporting regulated or highly governed environments. Understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata management, lineage, and stewardship practices. Exposure to enterprise security frameworks such as NIST, Zero Trust, or cloud security best practices.
