Job description

You’ll analyse complex datasets captured from advanced sensing systems, developing scientifically robust methodologies that accurately detect, localise and quantify industrial emissions. Working closely with software engineers, data scientists and hardware specialists, you’ll help shape the scientific foundations behind an industry-leading product while producing customer insight that directly influences operational and environmental decision making.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Analyse environmental and operational datasets to detect, interpret and quantify emission sources.
  • Interpret results considering atmospheric conditions, meteorology, site operations and measurement uncertainty.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports, translating complex scientific findings into clear customer insight.
  • Develop and improve emissions quantification methodologies, validation processes and analytical models.
  • Design and evaluate controlled trials, validation studies and field experiments.
  • Assess uncertainty, detection limits and confidence levels to ensure scientifically defensible conclusions.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and data scientists to develop analytical tools and production-ready scientific methods.
  • Support the scientific design of monitoring campaigns and customer deployments.
  • Work alongside customers and technical stakeholders to understand operational challenges and measurement objectives.
  • Contribute towards scientific publications, technical papers and industry best practice.
  • Stay current with developments across atmospheric science, methane measurement and environmental monitoring.

Requirements

  • Degree in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or another highly quantitative discipline.
  • Commercial experience within emissions measurement, atmospheric science, environmental monitoring or a similar scientific field.
  • Strong understanding of greenhouse gas measurement, atmospheric transport, dispersion modelling or environmental data analysis.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex real-world datasets.
  • Strong Python skills for scientific analysis (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy or similar).
  • Experience communicating technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across software, engineering and scientific teams.

Desirable Experience

  • MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Experience within methane emissions, oil & gas, utilities, landfill, wastewater, biogas or similar industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of emissions reporting frameworks such as OGMP 2.0 or measurement-informed inventories.
  • Experience with GIS, spatial analysis or atmospheric modelling.
  • Exposure to lidar, spectroscopy, remote sensing or optical measurement technologies.
  • Understanding of scientific software development, version control and reproducible research practices.

Benefits & conditions

This is a business experiencing an exciting period of growth, backed by significant investment and driven by genuine innovation.

They’re looking for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where ideas are encouraged, collaboration is second nature and everyone is prepared to roll their sleeves up. You’ll thrive here if you’re proactive, naturally curious and excited by the opportunity to influence technology that is solving real-world environmental challenges.

The Package

  • 50,000 - 55,000 depending on experience
  • Hybrid working (Bristol)
  • Modern, collaborative working environment
  • Opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and world-class engineers and scientists
  • Excellent career development within a rapidly growing technology business
  • The chance to make a genuine impact on global sustainability and environmental innovation
