Job description

The IT/AV Assistant provides vital first-line support for the vessel’s Information Technology (IT) and Audio-Visual (AV) infrastructure. Operating under the direct supervision of the IT Officer, the role ensures the reliable operation of passenger and crew networks, workstation hardware, and entertainment systems. Additionally, the role provides cross-functional programming support to the electrical team, while performing any additional general technical duties as reasonably required by the IT Officer or Chief Electrician., Helpdesk & User Support: Act as the primary point of contact to provide rapid, courteous, and effective troubleshooting for passenger and crew IT issues, including Wi-Fi connectivity, cabin infotainment systems, and general software/hardware queries. Network & AV Operations: Assist the IT Officer with the daily physical inspection, monitoring, and basic maintenance of the shipboard network (servers, switches, communication links), and successfully set up, test, and operate AV equipment for passenger events. Hardware Maintenance & Domotics Support: Deploy, configure, and repair desktop computers, printers, and POS terminals. Actively assist the Assistant Electricians with the programming, configuration, and troubleshooting of smart electrical equipment. Assist the IT Officer in ensuring all maintenance activities and defects are accurately recorded and followed up in Shipsure. Cybersecurity & Housekeeping: Strictly follow established company cyber security protocols, assist with routine data backups, and maintain the AV/IT workshops and storage areas in a clean, highly organized, and safe condition. Safety & Compliance: Comply with safety, security, and environmental requirements, including the correct use of PPE, and ensure strict personal compliance with work and rest hour regulations.

All employees have a duty under Company Policies and VMS requirements to: Participate in shipboard emergency duties and drills in accordance with the vessel’s muster list and emergency procedures Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and for that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions Cooperate with management on health and safety matters Use correctly all work items provided by the Company, including personal protective equipment, in accordance with training and instructions Not interfere with or misuse anything provided for health, safety, or welfare · Abide by environmental protection rules and regulations and actively participate in the reduction, reuse, and recycling schemes in place All employees shall participate actively in all HSEQ activities and promote safe practices as part of an integrated management approach.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Fitter on board cruise ships
  • All valid STCW certificates
  • Good command of English
  • Valid references and/or recommendations from previous employers
