Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience programming software-defined radios (e.g., Ettus USRP, LimeSDR)
  • Development with Xilinx or Intel FPGA platforms (Zynq, Kintex, Cyclone, Stratix) using Vivado, Vitis, or Quartus toolflows.
  • Proficiency in hardware description languages (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog) and/or high-level synthesis (C/C++, OpenCL).
  • Demonstrated ability to migrate compute algorithms from general-purpose CPUs to FPGA fabric, including performance optimization and timing closure.
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux or real-time operating systems on System-on-Chip FPGAs.
  • Optional: Experience applying AI or machine-learning workloads, especially on FPGAs (e.g., Vitis AI, DPU, AI Engine).
  • Optional: Knowledge of signal-processing algorithms, especially radar techniques (FFT, motion compensation, dechirp, etc).
  • Optional: Proficiency in Python for tooling and scientific computing (NumPy, SciPy) and GPU frameworks (CUDA, PyCUDA, cuFFT).
  • Optional: Experience with PCB layout tools and hardware design workflows (Altium, KiCad, OrCAD).

Experience

  • Industry, internship, or academic experience in FPGA development or embedded systems.
  • Project work demonstrating software-defined radio applications, FPGA acceleration of compute-intensive tasks, or end-to-end build flows: version control (Git), simulation, synthesis, place-and-route, and bitstream deployment.
  • Exposure to lab integration, test, and validation of FPGA-based hardware systems.

Supplementary Criteria

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to translate algorithm requirements into efficient hardware architectures.
  • Effective communicator comfortable collaborating with radar scientists, firmware engineers, and systems architects.
  • Enthusiasm for staying current with FPGA toolchains, SDR platforms, and real-time embedded design practices.
  • Self-starter mentality with a desire to learn new languages, toolflows, and hardware platforms.
  • Capability to document designs, write test plans, and present technical progress to stakeholders.
