Software Developer

The Full Stack Developer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications across all layers of the technology stack, including front-end user interfaces, back-end services and APIs, and database systems. This role operates within Populus Financial Group’s IT Application Service Management organization and supports a complex environment that includes point-of-sale (POS) systems, IBM i (AS/400) back-end processing, and store-level operations across hundreds of retail locations. This position requires strong full stack development skills along with practical experience in POS infrastructure, store data retrieval, and IBM i environments, enabling immediate contribution to both new application development and ongoing operational support needs., * Design, develop, and maintain full stack web applications and internal tools, encompassing front-end UI, back-end APIs, and database layers, using C#/.NET, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, and related frameworks.

• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and back-end services that integrate with POS systems, IBM i (AS/400) DB2 data sources, and third-party platforms (MoneyGram, Ingenico, Panini, bill pay providers).
• Develop and maintain front-end user interfaces using modern frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue.js); collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into functional, user-friendly screens.
• Perform store-level incident investigation and production troubleshooting, including pulling POS transaction logs, reconstructing transaction sequences, comparing store configurations, and isolating root causes.
• Execute SQL-based data extractions against IBM i DB2 (ACEDATA tables) and Microsoft SQL Server to support production troubleshooting, reporting, audits, and ad hoc analytical requests.
• Analyze and validate store-level deployment configurations; detect missed deployments, configuration discrepancies, and DLL mismatches using WinMerge and configuration file comparison techniques.
• Retrieve and deliver store artifacts including check images, receipts, and transaction records from POS store drives (via UNC path) and IBM i IFS, supporting compliance, audit, and evidence collection requests.
• Manage and maintain scheduled tasks and applications on the jump server; coordinate application deployments and service account transitions with DevOps.
• Participate in code reviews, maintain version control discipline using Git and/or TFS, and contribute to CI/CD pipeline development and deployment processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams (DevOps, Loans, Cards, Bill Pay, Sales Audit, Banking) for issue escalation, feature delivery, and knowledge sharing.

• 3 year(s): Full stack development experience, with demonstrated delivery across front-end, back-end, and database layers in a production environment.
• Proficient in C# (.NET) and/or Python; experience building server-side application logic, APIs, and utility applications in Visual Studio 2022 or later.
• Proficient across front-end (UI/UX implementation), back-end (APIs, business logic, services), and database layers; ability to own a feature end-to-end without handoffs.
• Practical experience with point-of-sale system architecture, log file structures, store-level configuration management, and UNC path-based store drive access.
• Back-End & IBM i Proficiency - Strong working knowledge of IBM i (AS/400) environments, IFS navigation, and DB2 SQL query development against related tables.
• Front-End Development - Capable of building functional, responsive user interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks; understands HTML, CSS, and front-end state management.
• Experience working with Agile/Scrum delivery models.
• API Design & Integration - Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs; able to integrate with third-party services and internal legacy systems.
• Demonstrated experience with point-of-sale system architecture, debug log interpretation, configuration file management, and store-level troubleshooting via UNC path access.
• Practical familiarity with IBM i IFS navigation, DB2 for i SQL, and store data retrieval workflows; experience with ACEDATA or equivalent IBM i table structures preferred.
• Proficiency with WinMerge, Agent Ransack, DBeaver, SQL Server Management Studio, Notepad++, and Windows Task Scheduler; jump server access and administration experience preferred.
• Experience with Git and/or TFS; familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to document technical processes, write clear API and system documentation, and share knowledge effectively.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP), containerization (Docker), or PowerShell scripting, preferred.
• Background in financial services, retail operations, or multi-store POS environments, preferred., Preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree or better in Computer Science or related field
