Job description

CSS, Inc. is looking for a qualified candidate to support the Fisheries Statistics Division (FSD) of NOAA’s Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFSC). This individual will provide administrative support to manage and analyze fishery dependent data from the recreational head boat fishery in the Southeastern United States from North Carolina to Texas., * Manage, organize, and maintain various fishery databases

  • Perform daily data entry, quality control, and analysis
  • Process and perform QA/QC on biological samples collected during sampling operations
  • Use data entry applications and software such as to summarize data and provide various reports and results
  • Perform and assist with various data analyses in support of data requests and general scientific inquiries
  • Participate in special projects including multidisciplinary collaborations within and outside the agency
  • Write scientific proposals for extramural funding.
  • Review reports, manuscripts and scientific proposals
  • Participate in public outreach efforts and events
  • Attend, participate, or present in scientific workshops or meetings

Requirements

  • MS Degree in Marine Science or a related field; OR BS degree plus 3 additional years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of applying basic concepts, principles and methodologies of data management and analysis of fishery data
  • Proficient in advanced database software such as SAS, R, Oracle and Access
  • Ability to pass a National Agency Check (NACI) and maintain it throughout the duration of employment., * Experience managing and analyzing catch and effort information from recreational fishermen
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts and theory
  • Expertise in data management and analysis
