  • Build a Lasting Career: Enjoy opportunities for professional development while serving a mission that directly benefits the Greensboro community., As the Senior Network Systems Administrator, you will serve as the technical expert responsible for the reliability, availability, security, and lifecycle management of the Water Resources Department’s SCADA infrastructure and operational technology environment., * Designing, administering, and maintaining the department’s SCADA computing and network infrastructure supporting industrial automation.
  • Managing the health and lifecycle of SCADA server platforms, Tier I and Tier II historian environments, archival systems, and application services.
  • Supporting secure OT/IT network infrastructure that provides resilient communications between treatment plants, remote facilities, and enterprise systems.
  • Implementing cybersecurity best practices to protect critical utility infrastructure from operational and cyber threats.
  • Serving as the technical bridge between Operations, Engineering, Plant Maintenance, Database Administration, and Central IT to ensure high system availability and rapid incident response.
  • Supporting disaster recovery planning, system redundancy, backup strategies, and business continuity initiatives.
  • Monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing server infrastructure, network performance, and SCADA applications.
  • Serving as the department’s primary resource for server infrastructure, network administration, and enterprise technology supporting utility operations.
  • Researching emerging technologies and recommending infrastructure enhancements that improve system performance, security, and long-term reliability.

This position requires exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a commitment to maintaining highly available systems that support Greensboro’s critical utility operations around the clock. This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • ā€œORā€ the equivalent of an Associate’s Degree in Computer Programming, Computer Engineering, Computer Network, or similar field, and 5+ years of experience in general network/server administration (e.g., information technology (IT), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Operational Technology (OT) as it directly relates to the position field. o ORā€ a High School Diploma and 8+ years in general network/server administration (e.g., information technology (IT), SCADA, Operational Technology (OT) as it directly relates to the position field.

  • 4+ years of experience in general network/server administration (e.g., information technology (IT), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Operational Technology (OT) as it directly relates to the position field.

An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Networking, or similar field
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows server administration in a domain environment.
  • Familiarity with industrial control/SCADA infrastructure.
  • Ability to design and support segmented, resilient networks.
  • Practical experience/understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals, risk-based operational constraints, quality documentation of best practices, and understanding of technical risk in relation to operational impact.
  • Strong communication skills across and between information technology and operational technology groups, and various work groups including industrial/plant, business, field, executive, etc.
