Job description

To ensure Tesla’s overall mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy, the Tesla Energy team is bringing our world-leading battery technology to the grid. Tesla is leveraging its breakthrough firmware, electronics, test, and manufacturing capability to develop and deploy grid-connected storage at residential, industrial, and utility levels. Tesla Energy is seeking a Sr. Software Development Engineer to push the boundaries of firmware, software, and hardware validation. You will lead the architecture and development of scalable, AI-driven test automation that continuously validates our cutting-edge energy storage systems, V2X, and solar products. By building robust CI/CD pipelines and intelligent analysis tools, you will accelerate testing and development cycles, ensuring our products meet the highest quality standards. What You’ll Do

Design and develop robust automated firmware/software testing solutions using Python, ensuring high reliability and repeatability Architect and maintain scalable test automation frameworks that support complex hardware and software systems Lead the development of AI agents that automate test , prioritization, refinement, and anomaly detection Drive AI-driven testing solutions by evaluating and integrating next-gen automation tools to optimize coverage, efficiency, and testing velocity Define best practices for automation integration into CI/CD pipelines Collaborate cross-functionally with system integration, software, and firmware engineers to define test strategies and develop automated test scripts Own firmware validation and regression testing on Energy Products, ensuring comprehensive coverage and release readiness

Requirements

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience 5+ years of experience in test automation and hardware/software validation Experience leading technical initiatives and defining test automation strategy Experience developing AI agents and LLM-integrated workflows, including prompt design and validation automation Experience with pytest or similar test frameworks Proficiency in Python Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and test management tools Electrical engineering fundamentals with working knowledge of basic EE tools (scopes, power supplies, electronic loads) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and surface issues within complex hardware/software systems Effective communicator with the ability to drive alignment across cross-functional teams

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
