Job description

Seeking a Vehicle Test Engineer specializing in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technologies. This is a contract position with benefits. Potential for direct hire. Location in Metro-Detroit, Ypsilanti, or Ann Arbor.

The position specifically requires validating vehicle performance against FMVSS standards using 4active systems and AB Dynamics track testing equipment and software. You will be instrumental in determining the performance and safety of automotive systems. Working with internal and external partners, you will plan, execute, analyze and report on the comprehensive test programs to verify and validate the functionality and effectiveness of ADAS features.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Test Scenario Development: Program and execute test procedures for mandated safety systems, specifically FMVSS 127 (Automatic Emergency Braking/PAEB) and FMVSS 108 (HLB), ensuring strict 100% pass rates.
  • Equipment Operation: Set up, calibrate, and operate AB Dynamics track testing equipment, including driving robots (steering, braking, throttle), Synchro control systems, and Guided Soft Targets (GST/Pedestrian dummies).
  • Software Execution: Utilize 4A and AB Dynamics Track Applications Suite to automate, execute, and analyze standardized active safety test protocols in the field.
  • Data Analysis: Process raw telemetry and vehicle network data (CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet) using AB Dynamics Post-Processor software to validate test validity and root cause sensor/software anomalies.
  • Setup and configuration of Oxford OxTS RT equipment
  • Test Environment Coordination: Manage vehicle-in-the-loop (VIL), hardware-in- the-loop (HIL) testing configurations, and physical testing to correlate simulations with real-world results.

Requirements

  • Programming & Tools: Proficiency with Python, MATLAB/Simulink, and automotive communication protocols (CAN, Automotive Ethernet).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets, identify patterns, and diagnose technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and convey technical concepts clearly and concisely.

Skills Preferred

  • Proficiency in the setup and operation of ADAS equipment to include AB Dynamics, 4A Active systems, VBOX, CAN loggers, and Oxford or other RTK systems

Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Automotive or Systems Engineering or related field., * 1-5 years of professional automotive experience in ADAS/AV verification and validation.
  • Track Proficiency: Valid driver’s license and experience executing dynamic vehicle testing at proving grounds
  • Flexibility: Must be willing to perform day or night testing

Work Experienced Desired

  • AB Dynamics Expertise: Hands-on experience using AB Dynamics track testing hardware and the Track Applications Suite / Robot Controller for ADAS automation.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of NHTSA test procedures, FMVSS regulations (e.g., FMVSS 127), and NCAP test protocols.
