IT Security Operations Coordinator

The IT Security Operations Coordinator serves as a team member on the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) IT Security Operations Compliance team. The position will report to the DSA IT Associate Director for Security and Compliance. The position oversees, monitors, and responds to security events and network security configurations for cloud and on-premise platforms and systems related to threats and vulnerabilities. These systems include 200+ servers and 1,400+ workstations across the division. In addition, this role supports the IT security operations for mission critical IT systems that support 24/7 business processes across DSA. These operations include health care, dining, housing, recreation and wellness, student activities, facilities, counseling services, accessibility and disability support, and other critical functions. In addition, the incumbent performs Incident analysis and recommends remediation steps.

Respond immediately to security incidents and provide post-incident analysis. Assists in performing vulnerability testing, risk analyses, and security assessments. Identify abnormalities and report violations using modern security tools. Maintain knowledge of current security trends and be able to communicate them to DSA staff members.

Working with various DSA departments, the incumbent Obtains documentation, approvals, and statements to complete investigations/incidents or close event tickets.

Collaborates with staff to maintain the security of department platforms and networks to ensure systems adhere to internal and external security policies and procedures. Partner with the Division of IT teams to harden the environment, respond to incidents, and lead investigations.

Will also participate in audits of system patching and logging of physical and/or cloud devices. The incumbent will serve on a team that supports the division’s 16 plus departments, about 3,000 staff members, and technology assets installed across 3.6 M Sq. Ft of space.

Will manage multiple projects and partner with peers and technical teams to prioritize tasks as needed. Identify and execute projects that improve our detection and incident response capabilities. Strategically define and work with campus IT security offices to implement additional preventive and detective capabilities or data sources to improve the division’s technical environment, protocols, and procedures. Assists with security training awareness practices, and updates and maintains policies and procedures., * Normal office environment - Sedentary work.

• Ability to travel around campus for meetings and to attend to duties.
• Evening and weekend work on a variable basis is required.
• This position is an essential employee related to catastrophic, weather, or other emergencies and may be required to come to campus when the University is closed. Some telework may be available as determined by department expectations and position needs.
• This is not a remote position, as the employee will need to report to campus to attend to duties.

Degree in an IT related field , equivalent education and experience may also be considered. Licensing or certification (such as CISSP, A-CISSP, CISM, PCI QSA, ITIL, CISA, ISO27001, Security+, CRISC, AWS, CIPP, GSEC, Google Cloud-Professional Cloud Architect) Proven two years of knowledge of protecting sensitive data such as PII, FERPA, HIPAA, or PCI DSS. Experience working in a higher education setting. Lead security training programs and activities. Experience with performing risk assessments and mitigation practices. Familiarity working with Mac OS, iOS, and Android. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Experience: One (1) year of professional administrative or coordinator experience. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of academic policies. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Google Office Suite. Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.
