Job description

We are seeking an experienced Data Center Technician to support server hardware, deployments, diagnostics, cabling, and network-related activities in a large data center environment.

The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience with server troubleshooting, hardware replacement, Windows Server, IPMI, firmware updates, and Layer 1-3 network troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Install, stage, configure, start up, and shut down servers, racks, switches, storage devices, and related hardware.
  • Diagnose server and hardware issues and replace failed components.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and support hardware failure investigations.
  • Conduct quality checks for cabling, labeling, grounding, staging, and deployment standards.
  • Support server refreshes, memory upgrades, OS rebuilds, and hardware decommissioning.
  • Use IPMI and diagnostic tools for troubleshooting and server health monitoring.
  • Perform firmware updates, hardware testing, and real-time issue resolution during deployments.
  • Troubleshoot network issues across Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3.
  • Support Windows Server, WinPE, virtual machines, and basic Linux environments.
  • Complete service tickets according to KPIs and SLAs.
  • Document technical procedures, SOPs, troubleshooting steps, and lessons learned.
  • Escalate incidents and communicate updates to relevant teams.
  • Follow all data center safety procedures and equipment-handling guidelines.
  • Assist and guide technicians with complex technical tasks.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of Data Center Technician or Server Technician experience.
  • Strong knowledge of server hardware and component-level failures.
  • Experience replacing processors, memory, drives, motherboards, power supplies, fans, network cards, and cables.
  • Strong experience with IPMI and server diagnostic tools.
  • Experience with Windows Server and Windows PE.
  • Basic Linux knowledge.
  • Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 network troubleshooting.
  • Firmware updates and hardware testing experience.
  • Virtual machine setup and environment configuration.
  • Basic scripting knowledge in PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
  • Ability to work independently and with distributed teams.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • CompTIA A+ or Server+.
  • CCENT or CCNA.
  • Microsoft MCP or MCSE.
  • Linux PXE experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and use rolling stairs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, lift, handle tools, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment., * Data center: 4 years (Preferred)
  • Server management: 3 years (Preferred)

Benefits & conditions

$37 - $42 an hour - Contract
