Job description
Based on-site in Indianapolis, IN, you’ll report to the Plastics Engineering Manager and operate within the Plastics Manufacturing Engineering Team. You’ll work with minimal oversight, protect production continuity, and own advanced PM and repair activities., * Execute comprehensive mold maintenance and corrective repair: teardowns, diagnostics, ejector/cooling/alignment/part-detail restoration.
- Perform intermediate machining and welding; provide hot runner system support.
- Diagnose and resolve molding issues (flash, shorts, gas burn, sticking, visual defects) to ensure consistent part quality.
- Collaborate with engineering on corrective actions and mold improvement projects; train and mentor technicians in best practices.
Requirements
- Do you excel at dissecting complex injection molds and restoring them to repeatable performance?
- Can you hunt down the cause of flash, short shots, gas burn, or part sticking-and fix it fast?
- Are you energized by mentoring others while keeping production moving?, * AA degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, preferably in mold maintenance and/or a toolroom.
- Strong fundamentals in mold systems-design/function, cooling circuits, parting surfaces, alignment systems-and the ability to read prints, tolerances, and tooling specs accurately.
- Advanced mechanical/electrical troubleshooting skills; proven ability to work independently and safely on complex tasks., * Technical leadership experience: leading complex repairs, supporting floor troubleshooting, mentoring T1-T2 technicians, and serving as a technical resource.
- Documentation and systems: CMMS or mold-tracking tools, Microsoft Excel/Outlook; ability to create clear repair histories and corrective/improvement recommendations.
- Continuous improvement: participation in RCA and CAPA; partnering with engineering to enhance performance, reliability, and uptime., * Ability to lift, move, or carry equipment up to 50 lbs; other position-related physical requirements as needed., * CNC Tooling
