Job description
Our Forage Managers are consultants who implement and manage forage programming to increase dairy operations profitability with homegrown forages. Beginning with our portfolio of silage genetics, our Forage Managers collaborate with owners, agronomists and nutritionists to maximize value and output., This position is responsible for identifying, cultivating and managing relationships with large dairy operations that result in increasing Prairie Estates Genetics (āPEGā) forage service and product implementation. Our Forage Managers consult with cutting-edge dairies to help facilitate the highest quality homegrown corn and alfalfa forages year-round.
Core Duties (include but are not limited to):
- From planting through harvest, consult with customers and their teams to provide expertise and troubleshooting to help them produce the highest quality forages.
- Manage extensive sampling for lab-work across territory, ensuring proper reporting and communications with farm clients
- Perform other duties as assigned including minor data entry, meeting with specialists and presenting annually to our Executive Committee.
- Call on the current client base and proactively prospect new farms in need of improvement.
- Obtain and submit orders and assist in providing financing information with third party financial products.
- Deliver product and/or arrange and monitor for the delivery of product to the customer site. Coordinate returns with proper documentation.
Requirements
- Robust customer relations experience in agriculture, especially as it relates to the business aspects of larger farms (1000+ head of cattle), cultivation and forage.
- A minimum Bachelorās degree in agriculture, animal science or agribusiness is preferred.
- Must have a dairy background (i.e. worked on a farm or experience in the dairy industry) and an interest in nutrition. The ideal candidate would have extensive knowledge of Dairy farm operations, metrics and goals.
Personal Attributes Required: This person must have effective interaction and collaborative skills and demonstrate a positive, welcoming and professional manner in person and on the telephone. Additional attributes include:
- Easy to get along with, outgoing and personable
- The ability to self-motivate and optimize use of unstructured time
- Effective verbal/relationship building skills especially
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills as it relates to sales and service
- Excellent time management/organizational skills
- Good digital skills (Microsoft Office, Excel and Google Workspace in particular, and other data platforms)
- Be able to present to small groups
- Must have a driverās license and must be insurable
Essential Physical / Mental Requirements:
- Be able to move 50# bags to shoulder height.
- Travel is required and is reimbursable. The individual must be able to drive and walk in farm fields.
- Work in adverse weather and field conditions (deal with pollen; typical field hazards, i.e. scratches from plants; work safely around heavy equipment).
