Job description

This role collaborates with systems teams to ensure software and hardware designs are delivered on time, with responsibilities spanning requirements development and documentation, test and validation support, and procurement support activities., * Work closely with Autonomy Systems integration engineers to ensure product architecture requirements are fulfilled.

  • Partner with Technical Program Managers and Application Architects to ensure program requirements are met (time, cost, and quality).
  • Ensure base machine software changes are delivered on time for command-for-hauling releases, supporting both New Product Introduction (NPI) and Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) solutions depending on program state.
  • Support field data collection kit activities, including design support, procurement, and shipping to site.
  • Document architecture specifications, software design descriptions, verification plans, test cases, operating procedures, and safety procedures.
  • Assist in the verification and validation process, including supporting and troubleshooting hardware-in-the-loop and proving ground test and development activities.
  • Participate in the design and development of application software and algorithms for robotic platforms.

A Typical Day or Week in This Role

  • Work with the L6 base machine team on feature requirements that impact the autonomy layer, decomposing and composing requirements.
  • Collaborate with validation teams to ensure integrated features perform as planned.
  • Provide field data kit support.

Team Structure & Work Environment

  • Collaborates with a globally distributed team, including members based in Tucson, AZ and Mossville, IL.
  • Primarily an office environment, with occasional field or proving ground visits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, or a related accredited curriculum, plus 5-7 years of relevant experience is required.

Required Technical Skills

  • Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC): Extensive experience applying structured methodologies across all phases of software product development, from requirements through delivery.
  • Software Product Testing: Extensive experience planning, designing, and executing full-spectrum test strategies, including functional, reliability, vulnerability, and agile/iterative testing approaches.
  • Application Development Tools: Extensive experience evaluating and applying a variety of tools and toolkits used in application and system development.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Working knowledge of AI concepts and methodologies, with the ability to support business requirements analysis, deployment, and maintenance of AI-driven systems.
  • Programming: Extensive experience writing, testing, debugging, and maintaining source code, with the ability to compare and apply multiple programming languages and techniques.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Extensive experience anticipating, diagnosing, and resolving hardware, software, and communications issues, including in multi-vendor environments.

  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to recognize, anticipate, and resolve organizational, operational, and process challenges.
