Job description

  • Position: Dispatcher/System Operator
  • Position function:
  • Provides radio and telephone communications support for cooperative personnel, members of the association, local government organizations and the public.
  • Duties and responsibilities:
  • Dispatches servicemen, as needed, to handle and restore service to consumers, including power outages and other problems.
  • Provides servicemen with necessary information to restore service.
  • Maintains constant monitoring of all communications in the field to know where service crews are located.
  • Maintains outage records, fills out applications for service orders, etc.
  • Uses and operates various software applications such as Outage Management System (OMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and Customer Information Systems (CIS).
  • Answers telephone calls and observes proper telephone etiquette dealing with members and other outside agencies.
  • Performs security walk through and monitors remote security cameras.
  • Keeps abreast on policies and procedures as required.
  • Performs remote connects and reconnects.
  • Maintains communication logs pertaining to outages and lock-out/tag-out.
  • Communicates with power suppliers and other utilities.
  • Participates in training sessions to improve knowledge and abilities.
  • Performs routine housekeeping in operations center as needed.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver’s License license?, Do you have experience in Typing?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * A high school diploma or GED is required. Two (2) years customer service experience preferred.

  • Must live within 30 miles of the Taylorsville Headquarters.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and to understand and follow written procedures, give clear and concise oral instructions, work with minimal supervision while maintaining a clear mind for response to emergency situations at all times.
  • Must possess considerable skill in exercising independent judgement and working in emergency situations with speed and accuracy.
  • Must have the ability to understand/interpret oral and written instructions
  • Must demonstrate acceptable telephone and radio voice projection with good enunciation.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to accurately input data into a PC terminal at the rate of twenty five (25) WPM with the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be able to communicate with cooperative personnel and others to solve problems as required, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to attend work on a regular and predictable basis. SHIFT WORK IS REQUIRED ON A QUARTERLY ROTATING SCHEDULE THAT INCLUDE NIGHTS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions and elements of this position competently following an orientation period.
  • Must be honest and trustworthy.
  • Must be courteous and friendly and able to work well within diverse groups of people.
  • Must be able to gain and maintain the respect of others, both inside and outside the cooperative.
  • Must be able to travel throughout the service area. Other travel outside the service area may be assigned.
  • Must possess a valid Mississippi driver’s license. Must be eligible to be and remain insured as a driver by the cooperative’s group liability policy for the automotive fleet.
  • Physical Demands
  • Must have the physical ability to perform essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of job which include, but are not limited to, seeing, hearing, walking, sitting, bending, climbing, lifting, and carrying loads averaging 25 pounds.
  • The work is performed predominantly in a secured dispatch/operations center, in an air-conditioned, smoke-free office environment. Occasional field trips to learn about SPE’s electrical system may be required.
  • During emergency situations, around-the-clock operations may be necessary.
