Job description

As an Enterprise Architect Customer Facing, or as we like to call it: Customer Facing Engineering Boss, you are responsible for our software architecture and landscape of the Customer Facing area. This includes strategic planning and execution for any software used by our customers or needed to serve the customer facing environment, such as our mobile app, webshop, store applications, self-service content, energy, recruitment website, and frontend design system.

Based on our strategic business goals, you define the most suitable Customer Facing Engineering architecture. You will ensure that our 20+ Customer Facing Development teams use technology, programming languages, principles, blueprints, and guidelines that enable scalability, increase speed of delivery, or reduce maintenance costs. Additionally, you will communicate clearly about this at various levels, from proposing yearly goals to management to evangelizing principles and guidelines to our entire development population, ensuring successful implementation in each of our 300+ daily software releases.

Furthermore, you initiate, organize, and supervise the implementation of new (strategic) software engineering technologies and projects like MicroFrontends. You will utilize the knowledge of the full Development community and support bottom-up initiatives, ensuring these initiatives are completed. You will challenge Principal Developers on their architectural choices and contributions to the Development teams, ensuring alignment with your Engineering goals and the business needs.

As Enterprise Architect, you are part of the Software Engineering Board, which steers and decides upon domain-overarching Software Engineering projects, such as geographical expansion to Germany. In the board, you will represent Customer Facing Engineering by creating proposals for new initiatives and reporting on the planning and performance of your area, bringing your expertise to the table on overarching topics. Responsibilities

  • Develop the most suitable Customer Facing Engineering vision based on Coolblue business objectives.
  • Initiate, organize, and supervise implementation of strategic software engineering projects to achieve your Engineering vision.
  • Explore new technology, partnerships, languages, or other opportunities to enable scalability, increase speed of delivery, or reduce cost of maintenance.
  • Advise and lead the way for Principal Developers and Development teams, as well as Product Owners, Domain Bosses, Head of Development Roadmaps, and the CEO.
  • Challenge development roadmaps and guide buy vs build decisions to ensure the right tool is used for the right job and that software is built effectively.
  • Hire Principal Developers based on your formation plan, allocate them to assignments, challenge their architectural choices, and provide input for their yearly assessment.

Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree.
  • Several years of experience in Enterprise architecture.
  • More than 10 years of work experience in Customer Facing Agile Software Development.
  • Technical expertise and strong analytical skills, with a clear vision of Customer Facing software architecture and technology use.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills to connect and lead the Development community and management.
  • Strong autonomous drive, ownership, project management, and problem-solving skills to organize strategic projects and ensure their completion.
  • Motivation to stay updated in your field of expertise.

Benefits & conditions

  • Competitive salary.
  • Challenging work that fully engages you.
  • An extraordinary work environment with colleagues who make you happy, including Coolblue parties and activities.
  • Collaboration in an international environment with colleagues from various countries.
  • 25 leave days, with the promise to return.
  • Travel allowance, retirement plan, and work-from-home allowance.
  • A balanced work environment between office and home, with support for creating an optimal home office.
  • A flat organizational structure, where you can interact freely with management.
