Job description

Data Architect - AI Governance Outside IR35 Remote

We are looking for an experienced Data Architect to support a public sector organisation in defining its enterprise-level AI data principles and associated governance controls. This is an initial two-month engagement, with potential for extension.

The Role Working at SFIA Level 5, you will review existing data architecture and AI governance materials before developing a clear set of principles addressing the risks associated with the use of data in AI. You will work across data, security, privacy and governance teams to ensure the principles are practical, comprehensive and aligned with the wider enterprise architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review existing data design, architecture and agentic AI principles.
  • Identify gaps relating to AI data quality, privacy, security, provenance, lineage and bias.
  • Define enterprise AI data principles aligned with the organisation’s wider architecture and governance strategy.
  • Facilitate workshops and build agreement across data, security, privacy, risk, compliance and AI governance teams.
  • Translate agreed principles into practical policies, processes and governance controls.
  • Create, update and map AI controls to support consistent adoption and assurance.

Essential

  • Senior Data Architect operating at SFIA Level 5.
  • Strong enterprise data architecture and data governance experience.
  • Proven background defining data principles, standards and governance frameworks.
  • Experience supporting AI, generative AI or responsible AI governance initiatives.
  • Good understanding of AI-specific data risks, including quality, privacy, security, provenance, lineage, bias and accountability.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation and consensus-building skills.
  • Experience translating architectural principles into actionable controls, policies and processes.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with DAMA and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
  • Knowledge of ISO 42001, ISO 27001 and UK GDPR.
  • Experience delivering within public sector or similarly regulated environments.
  • Understanding of agentic AI governance and associated data considerations.

  • Contract role: Initial 2 months, with potential extension
  • IR35 Status: Outside IR35
  • Rate:Ā£500 - Ā£525
  • Location: Remote
  • Start date: ASAP
