Job description

DXP Talent is working with an growing, market leading business based in Reading who have an opportunity for a mid/senior Software Engineer with a strong Python/Django background to join the team. React experience is also useful. In additional to building new product features across Desktop Applications, you will be someone who enjoys mentoring and will work with the junior team members to help them transition to a new tech stack (Python/Django, React) and play a real role in helping them to develop - pairing, advising, reviewing code etc. The Role

  • Build and maintain features across our stack (Python, Django, React), collaborating with teams in the UK, US and LATAM.
  • Partner with product managers and designers to turn requirements into well-scoped,
  • well-built features.
  • Set the bar for code quality and testing.
  • Collaborate directly with the senior engineers in the organisation on maintaining
  • technical standards, architecture, and development practices.
  • Model engineering excellence and support the growth of a high-performing engineering
  • culture.
  • Mentor engineers, advise on patterns and best practices, and help establish engineering
  • standards.
  • Run code reviews that teach - give thoughtful, constructive feedback that levels up the
  • whole team.
  • Be an approachable point of contact for questions, unblocking, and day-to-day
  • knowledge-sharing.
  • Implement AI-assisted development practices to help the team work faster and smarter.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on Python/Django (and preferably React) experience building and maintaining production systems.
  • A genuine mentor - a track record of helping teammates grow through pairing, code review, and knowledge-sharing.
  • Strong relational database skills - able to design schemas, write and optimise queries and manage migrations; comfortable with the Django ORM and basic performance tuning.
  • Experience in Git/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, observability platforms, JIRA/ClickUp project management, and Scrum/Kanban.
  • Experience writing and maintaining automated unit and end-to-end tests.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills - able to explain concepts clearly to engineers from different backgrounds (e.g. .NET).
  • Pragmatic problem-solver who can work independently while bringing others along.

Additional

  • Experience supporting a team through a stack transition or upskilling effort.
  • Experience with AI-assisted / AI-native development workflows.
  • Experience with Azure (or AWS) and Terraform.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch/OpenSearch (index design, query tuning, scaling).
  • Familiarity with Metabase or other analytics/reporting tools.
  • Experience collaborating with distributed or outsourced teams.
