Job description

We’re seeking a skilled and experienced Senior ADAS Embedded Software Engineer - Classic AUTOSAR to join JLR as part of the growing ADAS Platform and ECU Architecture team. This is a key role focused on shaping the software foundations that underpin next-generation driver assistance and automated driving systems. You will be working at the heart of ECU architecture, developing and configuring Classic AUTOSAR on multi-core microcontrollers that control critical vehicle interfaces.

In this role, you will design, implement, integrate and validate embedded software within a complex AUTOSAR environment, ensuring requirements are clearly defined, traceable and delivered to a high standard. Working closely with architecture and Functional Safety teams, you will help translate system-level requirements into robust, production-ready software, while contributing to reusable design patterns across multiple ECU platforms. The work is both technical and collaborative, requiring strong engineering judgement and a structured approach to problem solving.

You will also take ownership of key performance considerations, including CPU load, memory usage and efficient task management within real-time operating systems. Operating in a multi-core MCU environment brings additional complexity, and this role plays a central part in ensuring software is optimised, scalable and aligned across wider vehicle systems. Experience with Vector AUTOSAR tooling and a solid understanding of automotive communication protocols will be highly valuable in this environment.

This is an opportunity to be part of a highly capable and forward-thinking engineering team, working on technology that will define the future of modern luxury vehicles. Alongside technical delivery, you will contribute to continuous improvement, support knowledge sharing within the team, and help raise standards across the wider ADAS engineering community at JLR.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality outcomes and supporting the wider team through a range of responsibilities, including :

  • Design and develop Classic AUTOSAR software components, BSW modules, and RTE integration for multi-core MCU environments
  • Capture and analyse requirements from stakeholders, standards, and supplier documentation, translating them into clear, testable software requirements
  • Allocate requirements across software layers, ensuring full traceability through appropriate tools and structured runnable mapping
  • Define and implement runnable mapping strategies, alongside configuring OS, RTE and BSW modules to meet system and timing requirements
  • Drive timing and performance activities, including WCET analysis, KPI definition, and validation of timing budgets across multiple cores
  • Lead ECU bring-up and integration activities, including low-level BSP work, inter-core synchronisation, and peripheral configuration
  • Support Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and cyber security activities, while collaborating across architecture teams and mentoring junior engineers

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Strong embedded software background with proven Classic AUTOSAR experience on production ECUs
  • Demonstrated ability to capture, decompose and trace system and safety requirements into clear software artefacts
  • Strong C programming skills, with exposure to C++ and/or Assembly for low-level MCU bring-up
  • Hands-on experience with multi-core MCU architectures and real-time operating system configuration
  • Practical experience using Vector AUTOSAR tools, including BSW configuration, runnable mapping and timing analysis
  • Understanding of automotive communication protocols (CAN, CAN FD, Ethernet, UDS) with awareness of Functional Safety (ISO 26262)

Benefits & conditions

This role is rewarding in more ways than one. On top of our core offering, you’ll do extraordinary work with amazing people. In addition, you can expect a wide range of benefits:

  • Discounted car purchase (open to family members, too)
  • A 52 week maternity leave policy and a 4 week paternity leave policy. Other parental leave policies are available
  • A competitive pension
  • A JLR company performance-related bonus
  • An employee learning scheme providing funding for; education, training and other activities which support the development of personal skills and promote lifelong learning
  • Access to open, employee-led support and social networks

Creating Modern Luxury requires a modern approach to work. At JLR, hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement providing employees more choice and flexibility around how, when and where they work. Some roles require more on-site work, but details of this can be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview stage.

We work hard to nurture a culture that is inclusive and welcoming to all. We understand candidates may require reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process. Please discuss these with your recruiter so we can accommodate your needs.
