Job description

BI & Data Management is a newly formed function within Jumbo Group’s Digital Transformation department. Our ambition is bold: to make trusted, well-defined data the foundation of how Jumbo makes decisions, and to put clear, role-relevant insight and AI-enabled answers directly into the hands of leadership and every function.

We are looking for a BI & Data Management Lead to shape and drive this function. This is a genuine player-coach role. You will be hands-on with the data, the dashboards and our AI initiatives; you will raise the technical bar and help our BI Analyst grow; and you will sit as a full member of the Digital Transformation leadership team, setting direction alongside our IT and Digital Experience leads.

It is a rare opportunity to own and build a modern, AI-enabled data function from the ground up, with direct visibility to the Management Team and CEO, real autonomy, and a clear path to grow as the function grows.

What you’ll do

Deliver hands-on and raise the bar

  • Design and build KPI cockpits: focused, role- and function-specific performance views, starting with an MT/CEO cockpit, using Power BI.
  • Own and improve Power BI dashboards, data models and semantic layers, and drive adoption across business units.
  • Work directly in the data warehouse and align it with reporting, KPI and AI needs.
  • Coach and develop the BI Analyst on the craft: data modelling, DAX, definitions, dashboard design and delivery.

Drive AI and automation

  • Help lead Jumbo’s AI Data Warehouse Q&A initiative, enabling the Management Team and senior leadership to ask natural-language questions about sales and finance KPIs, and taking it from pilot to trusted, everyday use.
  • Shape how AI is applied to data across the function: spot high-value use cases, work with agents built per use case, and help set direction on tooling and platforms (for example Azure OpenAI).
  • Ensure clean definitions and a well-structured warehouse so that AI answers, and the decisions built on them, are trustworthy.
  • Bring an experimentation mindset: stay close to what is newly possible with AI and automation, and turn it into practical wins that remove manual, repetitive effort.

Set direction for the function

  • Own the BI & Data Management roadmap and maturity plan for 2027 and beyond, with AI and automation as core threads.
  • Champion the cockpit concept: multiple focused, actionable views rather than one dashboard for everything.
  • Prioritise the BI backlog against business value and keep delivery pragmatic.

Establish definitions, governance and data quality

  • Build and maintain the KPI dictionary and data dictionary, giving the organisation shared, consistent definitions and the clean foundation that reliable AI depends on.
  • Improve source data quality in partnership with the teams that own it, and make quality visible and actionable.
  • Define standards for dashboards, datasets, ownership and certification, positioned as complementary to, not a replacement for, business ownership.

Align stakeholders

  • Drive the cross-functional BI/Data working group (Finance, Sales, Operations, Marketing).
  • Build trust across functions and navigate ownership sensitivities with a collaborative, complementary mindset.
  • Translate business questions into clear data, reporting and AI solutions.

Requirements

Must-have

  • Strong hands-on Power BI: data modelling, DAX, semantic models and dashboard design.
  • Solid SQL and genuine comfort working with a data warehouse.
  • A real enthusiasm for AI and hands-on experience applying it to data, for example LLM-based Q&A over data, or AI-assisted analytics and automation.
  • A track record of defining KPIs and metrics and driving consistency and governance.
  • The ability to turn business questions into clear, trusted reporting.
  • Real stakeholder skills: able to align and constructively challenge across functions and up to leadership.
  • A coaching mindset; someone who enjoys developing others.
  • Pragmatic and delivery-focused, and comfortable being both hands-on and strategic.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with any of: Oracle Fusion, Anaplan, Zoho CRM, or similar enterprise source systems.
  • Exposure to data warehouse platforms (for example Azure / Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, SQL Server) and to data cataloguing or data quality tooling.
  • Experience with Azure OpenAI or similar enterprise AI platforms, and with building or evaluating AI agents.
  • Retail, consumer goods, e-commerce or marketplace (Amazon, bol.com) context.
  • Experience building or maturing a BI function.

Who you are

  • Ready to step up into a lead role and own something end to end.
  • Genuinely curious about AI and eager to put it to work in a real business setting.
  • Equally credible discussing DAX with an analyst and priorities with the CEO.
  • Collaborative rather than territorial about data and reporting ownership.
  • Motivated by building, growing, and having a real seat at the table.
