Cloud Engineer

• The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to join its IT leadership team on an interim basis at Head of Service / Assistant Director level.
• This role requires a senior technical professional with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud technologies, endpoint management, identity and access management, and enterprise security.
• The successful candidate will lead the design, implementation, and support of secure cloud infrastructure while ensuring compliance with public sector security standards and best practices., * Design, implement, and maintain secure Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure.
• Lead Azure cloud engineering initiatives, migrations, and modernization projects.
• Manage and optimize Microsoft Intune for enterprise endpoint management and device compliance.
• Design and administer enterprise Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions.
• Implement and maintain Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory) security and governance.
• Develop and enforce cloud security policies, standards, and best practices.
• Manage authentication, authorization, Conditional Access, MFA, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), and identity lifecycle processes.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, security, and application teams to deliver secure cloud services.
• Monitor cloud environments, identify security risks, and implement remediation strategies.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to internal IT teams and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with governance, regulatory, and cybersecurity requirements.
• Produce technical documentation, architecture designs, and operational procedures.

• Extensive experience as a Cloud Engineer, Cloud Architect, or Senior Infrastructure Engineer.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Proven expertise with Microsoft Intune (mandatory).
• Extensive experience in Identity and Access Management (IAM).
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory).

• Experience implementing enterprise security controls, including:

• Conditional Access
• Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
• Privileged Identity Management (PIM)
• Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
• Strong understanding of cloud security architecture and governance.
• Experience managing enterprise-scale cloud environments.
• Excellent troubleshooting and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working in complex enterprise or public sector environments.

Desirable

• Experience within Local Government or Public Sector.
• Microsoft Azure certifications.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Defender suite and Microsoft 365 security.
• Experience with cloud migration and transformation programmes.
• Familiarity with security compliance frameworks and governance standards.
