Job description

The Automated Systems Technician monitors and maintains highly automated manufacturing lines and supporting equipment in a regulated medical device environment, ensuring consistent quality, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery. This role executes preventive maintenance, supports engineering with testing and validation activities, and maintains detailed documentation in line with regulatory requirements. The technician applies strong technical, troubleshooting, and time management skills while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to keep automated equipment operating in a validated and reliable state., * Monitor and maintain highly automated manufacturing lines and associated equipment to meet quality, cost, and delivery goals.

  • Execute preventive maintenance orders and protocols on automated equipment and document all work performed clearly and accurately.
  • Assist engineering in testing procedures and protocols in support of regulatory and validation requirements.
  • Learn and apply the quality system processes required to operate and maintain the automated line within 0 to 3 months.
  • Build strong working relationships with team members and collaborate effectively to support production needs.
  • Train on the manufacturing line and learn the technologies used on the automated equipment, including robotics, vision systems, and PLCs.
  • Help execute maintenance work orders and protocols on automated equipment while following established procedures.
  • Maintain customer-specific system documentation in support of FDA regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
  • Within 3 to 6 months, demonstrate understanding, programming ability, and troubleshooting skills for the automated equipment.
  • Develop an understanding of how to maintain automated equipment in a validated state and adhere to validation requirements.
  • Understand and execute all maintenance work orders and protocols associated with the automated equipment independently.
  • Learn and adopt the company’s philosophies and culture, contributing positively to a team-oriented environment.
  • Within 6 to 12 months, support second shift operations on the automated line with minimal supervision.
  • Create, modify, and troubleshoot programmable technologies on the automated equipment, including PLCs, robots, and automation systems.
  • Assist engineering in implementing process improvements and cost reduction initiatives on automated equipment.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of FDA 21 CFR 820 and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements for medical devices.
  • Ensure automated equipment remains in a validated state by following established procedures and documentation practices.
  • Compose professional documentation such as protocols, work instructions, and engineering studies to support operations and compliance.

  • Hands-on work experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLCs or comparable PLC technologies.
  • Hands-on work experience with Fanuc robots or comparable robotic systems.
  • Experience working with Cognex vision systems or similar machine vision technologies.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled automated equipment and robotics.
  • Experience supporting validated manufacturing equipment in a regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with FDA 21 CFR 820 and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements.
  • Ability to compose professional technical documentation, including protocols, work instructions, and engineering studies.
  • Strong time and project management skills with the ability to set and meet aggressive schedules.
  • Ability to learn new automation technologies quickly and apply them effectively on the production floor.
  • Positive, team-oriented communication style and the ability to collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams.
  • Solid understanding of the importance of quality in a medical device manufacturing environment., * Experience with automation systems that integrate robotics, PLCs, and machine vision in a manufacturing setting.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience working with automated mechanical equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex automated equipment, including robotics and control systems.
  • Experience in automation, robotics, or mechatronics within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to adopt and embody the company’s philosophies and culture in daily work.
  • Comfort working on second shift and supporting production with minimal supervision after ramp-up.
