Job description
We are seeking a Healthcare Cloud Integration Engineer to support and enhance our healthcare technology platform. This role is responsible for administering and integrating OpenEMR with medical billing clearinghouses while maintaining our cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
The ideal candidate has experience with healthcare IT systems, medical billing workflows, EDI transactions, cloud infrastructure, and application integration. This position works closely with software developers, billing specialists, and operations teams to ensure secure, reliable, and compliant healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and support OpenEMR applications.
- Design, implement, and maintain integrations with medical billing clearinghouses such as Availity, Experian Health, Change Healthcare, Waystar, or Office Ally.
- Configure and troubleshoot healthcare EDI transactions, including 837 claims, 835 remittance advice, 270/271 eligibility verification, and 276/277 claim status inquiries.
- Develop and maintain REST APIs and application integrations.
- Deploy, monitor, and maintain applications running on Microsoft Azure and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
- Manage Docker containers, Kubernetes deployments, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot production issues, and optimize application reliability.
- Collaborate with software developers, billing teams, and third-party vendors to resolve integration issues.
- Ensure HIPAA compliance, data security, and system availability.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in IT systems engineering, application integration, or healthcare technology.
- Experience supporting healthcare applications or Electronic Medical Record (EMR/EHR) systems.
- Experience with OpenEMR or another major EMR/EHR platform.
- Experience integrating with one or more medical billing clearinghouses, such as Availity, Experian Health, Change Healthcare, Waystar, or Office Ally.
- Strong understanding of medical billing workflows and healthcare EDI transactions (837, 835, 270/271, 276/277).
- Experience administering Microsoft Azure services.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with Linux administration.
- Strong SQL skills, preferably MySQL or MariaDB.
- Experience developing or supporting REST APIs.
- Familiarity with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- PHP development experience with OpenEMR.
- HL7 and FHIR integration experience.
- Experience with Mirth Connect (NextGen Connect) or other healthcare interface engines.
- Knowledge of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) systems and workflows.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Terraform, or Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience with Azure Monitor, Azure Key Vault, and Azure Container Registry.
- Healthcare cybersecurity and HIPAA compliance experience.
