Job description

As a Senior Cloud Network Engineer, you will be at the heart of Microsoft’s modern network engineering process, working in a team that manages Microsoft’s corporate hybrid hosting infrastructures, and enabling hybrid development workloads from on premise Lab networks to Azure. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Translate security, business and functional requirements into a technical solution.
  • Engage with security & internal customers to design and implement connectivity solutions leveraging Azure services and appropriate network technology required to meet cost, interoperability, and security requirements.
  • Participate in Live-Site activities pertaining to compliance, security, and availability incidents.
  • Participate in on-call (DRI) and customer issue intake processes.
  • Assess and triage application owner/customer consult network connectivity requests within the from the traditional lab networking connecting to Azure infrastructure stack (compute/networking/storage) to further modernize and secure overall architecture in the environment.
  • Design and implement hybrid networking topologies to provide minimally required connectivity for internal Microsoft workloads.
  • Develop automation to scale work out or ensure quality as work is distributed within the team. Python and Agentic AI.
  • Set standards in alignment with the service leadership and ensure these standards are met across services under different workloads.
  • Work on the service platform and continuous delivery process to drive improvements in service reliability, as well as working with product development teams on improving these.

Maintain and Operate Networks

  • Monitoring, analyze & debugging, and Troubleshooting network infrastructure; participate in on-call/Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) duties and create root cause analysis for network incidents.
  • Continuous Improvement, testing and validation of network devices.
  • Deployment Management - Work within a team of engineers to manage network deployments, work with a machine-readable definition of the network deployment.
  • Troubleshooting of network routing protocols (e.g., IPv4, IPv6, OSPF, BGP), TCP/UDP/HTTP(s), and overlay technologies such as EVPN, VXLAN, MLAG
  • Experience with Palo Alto Firewalls with Panorama, Arista, Cisco, F5.
  • Drive compliance against security compliance objectives.

Supporting People and Execution

  • Collaboration - Collaborate within and across teams by proactively sharing information with an appropriate level of detail for their audience; overcome obstacles by resolving conflicts and issues across interdependent teams and engage with partners and stakeholders so issues can be resolved, and mutual objectives are met.
  • Mentorship / Development - Mentor and provide feedback to other engineers, while also proactively seeking mentorship and feedback from others; share ideas and insights for improving team-oriented behaviors, including DevOps and live site handling skills.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • OR Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
  • OR Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation OR equivalent experience., * 7+ years of technical experience in network engineering which must include layer 2 analysis and troubleshooting TCP/IP routing & switching, network design, development, and automation.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • 3 + years Scripting skills (Python, Ansible are preferred, but not a strict requirement) in both Linux and Windows environment.
  • Experience working in an agile environment with high organizational complexity.
  • Track record in successfully planning and supporting large scale, geo-distributed, high availability enterprise services.
  • Experience in program or project management to plan, design, deploy and document customer solutions.
  • Create internal and external documentation such as standard operating procedures for internal use and customer facing knowledge resources with the help of engineering resources
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
