Job description

We are looking for a Graduate Design Engineer to join our mechanical design and development team. This role combines technical and product development. You will be joining a team of Development Engineers and Design/Project Engineers while driving the design, development and continuous improvement of our product range. Working closely with Production Management and colleagues across sales, manufacturing, electrical engineering and marketing, you will play a key role in delivering innovative, commercially viable products and bringing new ideas to market.

Graduate Design Engineer Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the development of new products from concept through to manufacture.
  • Review existing products and identify opportunities to improve performance, quality, manufacturability and cost.
  • Work closely with sales teams and customers to develop and prototype new product concepts.
  • Manage design projects, ensuring delivery to agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Preparation of engineering calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Ensure products comply with relevant legislation, standards and quality requirements.
  • Support technical submissions, customer enquiries and sales activities when required.
  • Work collaboratively with manufacturing and electrical engineering teams to deliver practical and cost-effective solutions.
  • Monitor developments in relevant technologies and materials and assess their suitability for future products.

Requirements

You will have a strong mechanical engineering background and experience within a manufacturing or product development environment. You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline (BEng).
  • Proven experience in a design engineering degree
  • Strong product development and project management skills.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles.
  • Ability to balance technical requirements with commercial objectives.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience producing and reviewing engineering calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of quality and environmental management systems.
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems would be advantageous.
  • Experience with digital engineering tools and capabilities, such as CAD, simulation/FEA
