Job description

  • Lead the design and delivery of modern cloud-based data platforms using Microsoft Fabric, Azure and AWS technologies.
  • Architect scalable, secure and maintainable data solutions for a variety of clients.
  • Design, build and optimise high-performance ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Develop robust data models, lakehouse and warehouse solutions using industry best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership across projects, ensuring high standards of engineering quality.
  • Mentor and support Data Engineers through coaching, code reviews and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Define and promote engineering standards, governance and best practices.
  • Lead technical discussions, solution workshops and architecture reviews.
  • Troubleshoot complex data issues and identify opportunities for optimisation.
  • Support project planning, estimation and technical decision-making.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and help drive innovation across the business.

This is a full-time remote Lead Data Engineer role for UK-only candidates, with a 9-month fixed-term contract and a salary of £50,000 to £60,000 DOE. The role is hands-on and leadership-focused, based remotely with hybrid remote working in Doncaster.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in data engineering, designing and delivering enterprise-scale data platforms.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics and/or Databricks.
  • Excellent understanding of data architecture, modern lakehouse and warehouse design principles.
  • Strong expertise in ETL/ELT development and optimisation.
  • Experience designing scalable data models for analytics and reporting.
  • Strong SQL skills across Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Experience with cloud-native data services within Azure and/or AWS.
  • Experience developing solutions using Azure Data Factory or Microsoft Fabric Data Factory.
  • Strong Power BI knowledge, including understanding downstream reporting requirements.
  • Experience with Python and/or PySpark.
  • Excellent understanding of data governance, security and performance optimisation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead technical delivery across multiple projects.
  • Experience mentoring or leading other engineers.
