AWS Database Engineer (Data Migration)

This role supports the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (COPA). COPA is modernizing their Licensing and Permitting system, which will leverage a Salesforce front end and an AWS backend. The AWS backend will have multiple AWS services including data storage and data lake services, API services, and reporting services.

The AWS Database Engineer (DBA) will be responsible for executing database migration, replication, and transformation activities required to move data from legacy systems into AWS. This role will ensure data is migrated accurately, validated, and ready for production use., * Implement data migration and replication patterns from source systems (e.g., Oracle, CSV) into AWS (S3, Aurora/RDS).

• Execute full load and incremental data migration strategies in alignment with migration requirements.
• Develop and execute SQL-based transformation logic to prepare data for downstream consumption.
• Perform data validation and reconciliation including row counts, data integrity checks, and business rule validation.
• Support testing phases including dry runs, SIT, and UAT validation.
• Support final synchronization and production cutover activities, including execution of migration runbooks.
• Monitor and optimize database and data migration performance during execution.
• Troubleshoot migration failures, data inconsistencies, and performance issues.
• Collaborate with data architects, data engineers, and SMEs to ensure alignment with migration design and requirements.
• Document migration processes, validation procedures, and operational runbooks.

Do you have experience in Technical writing within technology?, * 7+ years of experience as a Database Engineer or DBA, including database migration experience.

• Strong experience with Oracle databases and relational database systems.
• Experience migrating databases to AWS platforms such as Aurora or RDS.
• Strong SQL skills for data transformation, validation, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with data replication, ETL/ELT processes, and migration execution.
• Experience performing data validation, reconciliation, and defect resolution.
• Previous experience working with project teams to deliver cloud-based solutions.
• Previous experience creating technical documentation including workflows and runbooks.

Nice to have:

• Experience with AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).
• Experience with AWS data lake integrations (S3, Glue).
• Experience with Salesforce data loading approaches (CSV, JDBC, external IDs).
