Job description

At Tradebyte, we work with the biggest players in e-commerce - from trendsetting fashion brands to major online retailers. Our goal is to create a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered. We offer flexible work schedules, professional development opportunities, and a real commitment to work-life balance. We embrace diverse perspectives and ensure that every voice is heard and respected, because you’re unique and that matters to us. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for new colleagues who share our passion. Love what you do - do what you love. Join Tradebyte, an independent company within the Zalando Group!

THE ROLE AND THE TEAM

This role is centered on building a Centralized Data Lakehouse from scratch. The team’s mission is to elevate “Data as Exhaust” into “Data as a 1st Class Citizen,” focusing on reliable and repeatable insights through high data quality, robust Medallion architectures, and sustainable designs. Key factors for the 2026 strategy include a “Product Mindset” towards data and intense collaboration and knowledge-sharing with the Zalando Data Foundation.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

  • You will take end-to-end responsibility for our Data Refinery - from ingestion (CDC) to providing business-ready data products in the Gold layer.
  • You will design, build, and maintain scalable ELT pipelines using Databricks Delta Live Tables (DLT).
  • You will liaise with the owners of source systems (e.g., TB.One) to define and align Data Contracts.
  • You will implement and oversee Data Governance and security standards within the Unity Catalog.
  • You will perform technical analysis and root cause analysis to improve data quality and pipeline reliability.
  • You will build and maintain strong working relationships with the development teams and the Zalando Data Foundation.
  • You will record and share information on current working methods and lessons learned to foster a high-performance data culture.

Requirements

  • You have extensive experience with the Databricks ecosystem (Unity Catalog, Delta Live Tables, Workflows).
  • You have a deep understanding of the Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and Delta Lake internals.
  • You are proficient in Apache Spark (PySpark) and Python for large-scale data processing.
  • You have several years of experience in building and maintaining scalable Streaming & Batch pipelines, specifically using CDC (Change Data Capture) from RDBMS (e.g., MySQL/BinLogs).
  • You are familiar with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), Docker, Git (trunk-based development), and DevOps principles.
  • You bring the ability to translate complex business requirements into robust, de-normalized data models optimized for Lakehouse performance.
  • You have a good understanding of Cloud Infrastructure (AWS), REST APIs, and secure data exchange.
  • You possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and the ability to accurately document designs and processes.
  • Experience in aligning data strategies within a larger group ecosystem (like Zalando).

Benefits & conditions

  • Tradebyte provides a range of benefits, here’s an overview of what you can expect. Ask your Talent Acquisition Partner to learn more about what we offer.
