Senior API Engineer - Madrid Office (Hybrid: 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home) We are seeking a Senior Backend-focused Engineer to play a crucial part in our API team. In this role, you will be working on scaling our main web application and developing tooling and processes to empower Ebury product teams to ship amazing features efficiently and independently while maintaining a unified, usable experience for our customers. We’re looking for the right attitude, work ethic, and entrepreneurial spirit to ask the hard questions. To be informed by data, but be led by a desire to solve our customers’ problems. You should learn by default and be ever curious. You should be programming language, framework, and tool agnostic but have strong opinions (weakly held) on the right tool to solve our biggest problems. Responsibilities - Contribute to the development of the next iteration of our platform channels, collaborating both in the development and delivery of new products but also in the improvement and maintenance of existing ones - Collaborate with your team members and engineering leaders to design new services and components using our Request For Comments (RFC) process - Take full ownership of the products you build, embracing both their development and ongoing maintenance - Build and run services; containerise your code and add monitoring and alerting to your services - Ensure code is testable and well covered with unit and integration tests - Use CI/CD pipelines and IaC tools for the deployment of services and infrastructure; contribute to them as needed - Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, collaboration and innovation, while setting an example of culture and performance - May be on-call at times About you - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience) - 5+ years of software development experience, with a proven track record of building high-performance, client-facing web applications - Knowledge of basic algorithms, object-oriented and functional design principles, and best-practice patterns - Experience with Python, Django, PostgreSQL, Redis, REST APIs - Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS - Experience with IAM framework and related tools like Keycloak - Strong understanding of system architecture, API design, and building scalable services, including incorporating monitoring, alerting, and integrating complex external systems - Strong knowledge of Linux systems, cloud infrastructure, networking, and databases - Proficient understanding of code versioning with Git - Excellent communication and collaboration skills in English for seamless international teamwork What we offer - Competitive salary and benefits package - Discretionary bonus based on performance - Continued personal development through training and certification - Open Source-friendly culture, following Open Source principles in our internal projects and encouraging contributions to external projects We believe in inclusion.
